Need a job in NY State

Published

I passed NCLEX and IELTS tests last month. I am holding a RN license of NY state but I haven't pacticed for several years. Althought I am living in NY state (Buffalo area), I find it is very difficult to find a hospital to sponsor the Green Card. Did anyone have the same experience? Please help.

would be best not displaying your email address.

Just come back from the Buffalo area on holiday now back in the UK. What sort of visa are you on and it may be worth getting in touch with as many hospitals even in the surrounding areas looking to see if they will petition you, may be worth thinking about financing it yourself and explaining to the hospitals that you would consider paying towards the costs and get a lawyer experienced in this type of work to give you ideas of how much it will cost

I also have the same problem. I couldn't find a hospital to sponsor me in the upstate of NY. I was out of the work for 4 years, so I attended a nurse refresher course few months ago. I also told them that I could pay for the fees, but they said it's the policy not to sponsor. I feel so frustrated not being able to find a job. Rabitwhite, please let me know if you have good news. Good luck to both of us. :)

Most are not even aware of the requirements for doing the petition for a green card, it involves the facility in preparing about two letters of documentation. The immigration attorney does the rest.

Suzanne, most of the hospitals( Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, Albany, Binghamton areas) that I talked to, they were either rejected me right after I asked about sponsorship or told me that they had done this before but not anymore because there are not many positions available for them to sponsor. Even when I asked to cover the cost of the sponsorship, the answer was still no. One question is in my mind for quite a while. Is there any requirement for a hospital to petition a green card for foreign nurses? I mean legally. Beacuse some hospitals told me that they are not allowed to sponsor nurses unless there is a huge shortage in the hospital. I don't know if it's the regulation of the immigration law or else. I tried to explain that the hospital only need to fill out two forms, and my lawyer would do the rest, but it still didn't work. I don't know what else I can do. :sniff: Maybe the upstate of NY is just not a shortage area. Any idea would be appreciated.

what about hospitals in the NYC area? is it hard to find sponsoring hospitals there too?

Same thing is happening CA. Very frustrating. :o

The posts here are disconcerting, considering that most of foreign nurses, like me take the New York route for their initial licensure in the United States. Actually, I have applied to the New York BON on the premise that it is the fastest and can ensure foreign nurses of sponsoring employers. Would this trend now make it advisable for foreign nurses who wish to work in the United States in the fastest means possible, to apply in other states instead of New York? What other states would you advise us to apply in for initial licensure? Thanks.

What ever state you go for initial licensure you have to think on where you are going to be working/offered a job as you have to go through the service centre which is allocated to that state and I think there are 4 which deal with nurses and they all have different dates. Although I am not going to the US anymore I was going through CA service centre and they haven't moved for nurses since atleast november last year and last time I looked was still set at jun :angryfire

hey silverdragon.....what made you decide to stay at the UK? just becoz of the long wait?

If it's Nov. 2005 then its just at par w/ Vermont and just 1 month delay vs. Texas. Anyway, I don't think its up-to-date in real-time (for all service centers). This was also the issue for Vermont last year when it says Feb 2005 but there were many alreay reporting being approved for july and above and Vermont only updated their I-140 sched A this Feb 06 to Currently processing Nov. 2005. So.. (hopefully) its the same case with CA service center.

In addition, I've read somewhere that USCIS is considering pooling some of the "priority" petitions so that all processing dates/schedule for that particular petition (it didn't say but hopefully sched A workers are part of it) would be the same whereever jurisdiction it may be.
