hello everyone!

i have a question that i can not seem to get an answer to from anyone...can anyone or does anyone knows exactly what is a lpn ii? what do they do? is there anything specific you need to do in order to acquire this level/rank? what exactly does this lpn ii works in?, salary? any info that anybody can offer me will help very much! i would like to obtain a higher the rank/etc...

Here's a guess.

Some hospitals use the description RN I, RN II, RN III to indicate the level of training, education and responsibility for the position. RN I might be a staff nurse on a unit, RN II might be an educator, etc. I would imagine that it might be similar with LPNs. Another possibility is that LPNs in most states have varying levels of responsibility with IVs. Usually hospitals will have a category for IV trained LPNs.

Just some ideas. No clue as to differences in pay rates. Perhaps you could call the hospital where you saw the listing for an LPN II.

Well, in my hospital they use LPN I and LPN II. Usually, LPN I (just like RN I) are entry level positions. Once more experienced and Education comes into play, LPNs get raise to the level of LPN II. It almost seems as though there is a very slim difference between LPNs and RNs in our hospital. Some meds, of course, need to be administered by LPNs and RNs to receive more compensation (hence many LPNs will eventually go back to school for their RN). As to the way they care for their patients, I don't see a major difference.

That makes alot of sense! i figure it could be something like that...i found that LpnII on a hiring add for a hospital in broward county! i tried calling to get info but no one either seem to know or want to tell me over the phone! only way to find out was by interview but i dont have my license yet! would love to get that Lpn II!! thans so much for your help!!

Hey NARCAN. I didn't even know there was such a thing as an LPN 2. I don't know the difference, but I would sure like to find out. As you see, I'm going for my LPN also, at my high school. If I can get at higher level, that would be great! I'll try to find out what it is and I'll let u know when I do. :nurse:

LPN I's where I work are new grads. After you pass NCLEX, get through the orientation and have the IV Certification you are LPN II.

IV certification is very important because an LPN I cannot push IV meds, whereas an LPN II can.

Hello Tweety, thank you so much for your reply! i was wondering then since i am already certified in IV insertion and maintanace when i take my nclex-pn would that make me automatically LPN II? i have alot of experience with phlebotomy and iv's (since '97)!

hey narcan. i found out what the difference between an lpn 1 and lpn 2 is. lpn 1 is a starting lpn with no other certifications. lpn 2 is an lpn with one or more certifications. eg. iv therapy certified or ekg/ecg certified. :) in order to acquire this level just get your license and then take an additional course to become certfified in a specific area. i'm going for lpn and then i want to become certified in iv therapy. i don't know the salary rates, but i would assume that an lpn 2 gets paid more than an lpn 1 because the lpn 2 can do more skills.

well i am already IV insertion and maintance certified since 2003 i just need my LPN license, i am hoping i can qualify for LPN II tittle then!!

I thought that LPNs cant push IV Meds PERIOD...and that the IV certification allows you to START IVs but not push any meds? Did I misunderstand when I was told that?
