At the old clinic i used to work for the dietician and nurses would freak out about the labs. it was all about the labs because of the bonuses. Even though its a good incentive, alot of patients are going to have bad labs due to illness or what not. I understand in terms of education that it is important to do our best but sometimes you can't control numbers! It always irked me how the nurses , FA's, and dieticians were around monthly lab time. It's like all of a sudden they go bizzirk. I duno if its like this with other renal companies but i'm glad i left davita. so glad.:behindpc:

Has anyone started at DaVita or just changed their minds about the company since their last post? Just wondering if anything has changed (good or bad) since you posted. I agree with all the bad post! That is my experience with the big D.

I would suggest to anyone who is thinking about working in a unit to obtain a copy of their most recent inspection. This can give you an idea about the delivery of care and if facility policies and procedures are being followed, in addtion to the Conditions. The facility should have no problem in providing such to you as these are public documents and available through the Dept of Health that is responsible for conducting surveys. Patient safety problems are often identified. Remember, it is your RN license that is on the line. RenalRuth
If you go to www.lufkindailynews.com and scroll to the bottom you will see a 'timeline' for a Davita facility in Texas where many problems existed. The surveys are posted on the newspaper site to give you an idea in case you have not ever read a survey inspection report RR Renal Ruth

It's all about the team. The people working in the clinic are what makes a clinic a great place to work or the unit from hell. I have worked for Fresenius & Davita. I like Fresenius better overall, but I really like the staff that I work with now at Davita. It's a smaller clinic, which I like. The larger units tend to be very chaotic now matter what company they are.

Sorry I did not reply in time ellany69. I did not get the info I was looking for. I no longer work for Davita. I found their working conditions and policies non tolerable. Hope all is well with you on your end.

I have worked in dialysis for over ten years. I have worked for two major dialysis companies and I can honestly say Davita is the worst. They preach their "core values" which are a bunch of crap because they certainly do not practice what they preach. The core values are used as a way of brainwashing and guilting their employees at the clinic level into working their rears off with unsafe ratios while the FA's and above enjoy their bonuses and parties including open bar at all of their "meetings". At the clinic level, when it comes to patient care, it is all about saving money for Davita, much more so than the other large dialysis company that I worked for. Davita actually penalizes clinics for using "too many supplies", such as guaze or syringes for their patients while the management enjoys "business" trips including dinner cruises and 5 star accommodations in places such as Chicago. Instead of matching 401k, Davita claims to offer bonuses. The bonus system is a joke, as it is based on goals that are close to impossible to meet and are for the most part out of your control. Why anyone would work for Davita is beyond me...you will be overworked, many times in very unsafe conditions with ratios that are against the law in many states. You will not be appreciated in any way, and you will watch as your manager preaches about core values and staying below budget, as they go on Davita paid trip after trip all in the name of business. Instead of providing open bar during "business trips", perhaps Davita should put that money into better care for their patients, eliminate reuse (a practice that is of no benefit to patients with modern dialyzers and increases risks) and better pay and benefits for good staff to lower turnover. My advice, if you are a nurse or tech, stay as far away from Davita as possible.
I found the following on another site...KT might be a brilliant CEO, making millions for himself...of course then again, many criminals are brilliant. Yes, I think of KT as a criminal for the sorry excuse for care that Davita patient's receive while Davita management sits at meetings and has a department devoted to the Hippers and how to "milk more money" out of insurance providers and the government.
