Hi!

I think that I need a help to stop smoking (smoke 20 per day), I've read a lot about stopping smoke, well, I think I need some guide, I've read here that it's important to have some one's help... I don't know if I need others help to stop smoke, what do you think?

It's like any other chemical, it's hard to quit alone.

I have smoked for thirty years and have quit multible times over the years. Two weeks ago i started the new drug Chantix and have been nicotine free for five days with minimal withdraw symtoms. This is the first time that i did not go back because of withdraws, this med is great. Check out the web sit Chantix.

When I quit smoking I had the best motivation, I was pregnant with my first. I quit cold turkey as soon as I found out I was pregnant. That said, I admire anyone who stops smoking. It was the hardest thing for me to do, but so worth it.

Because I was pregnant I couldn't use any meds, but for the first month you couldn't get me to take out my gum. I also put all the money I would buy on cigs into a jar and saved up for anything I wanted (dream crib). That way I could see the money I was saving and it made the withdrawl a little easier.

It is true that you do need help to quit, my husband (and new baby) were great support. My husband had to deal with my crazy mood swings but he understood. If I was having a really bad nic fit, he would try to redirect my attention to something else, usually gum.

Sorry I can't give you any more advice, all I can say is that it will be hard but you can do it.

Good luck!!!

I too smoked forever and quit three years ago.. Heres the thing.. You have to quit and change your mindset.. You have to tell yourself that you will never smoke again. You must never pick up a cigarette again. You can't or you will fail. It took me a good year to get over the very strong urge to have just one... Now I realize how stupid I was for smoking and wasting all that money.. I bought a new car the day I quit and what I save each month pays for the car (my husband also quit on the same day). Find other ways to relieve anxiety during times of stress... Cry, Cry, Cry but DO NOT SMOKE. You don't need to smoke to get through a crisis.. I have two marbles that I roll together in my hand when I drive which keeps my hand busy. I never smoked in my home so I staying indoors a lot, but my dog kept having accidents in my house??? (she was not going out to smoke either and had never learned to ask to go out).. I had to stay away from my moms house for 6 months.. She smokes a lot and it was hard going there...

Quitting is not a lost cause.. You can do it.. You can quit.. There is a toll free 800 number to call when you get the urge.. They will talk you down.. I used the patch and it worked well for me...

Realize that its more addicting than heroine , but you can do it. If I can, anyone can.

Good luck in the New Year and with the New You that does not smoke.... ;)

hey, i am on chantix too, you're the only other person i've heard that's on it! i am on week 3 and smoke free... it is way better than the patch. i had one slip up and didn't enjoy it at all. i didn't realize that the med also cuts down on the pleasure derived from nicotine as well as cuts the craving. it's great.

Ever visited QuitPlan.com? Don't try to do it alone. There are QuitPlan counselors, med options (Chantrix is really effective for most) and lots of support. You need a plan. Have things on hand to distract or change thoughts during cravings. Plan ahead for times when you KNOW you will want to smoke (at the bar, after a meal, at break time, etc.) and put your plan into action as soon as the craving begins. Good luck!

I tried for 7 years and finally quit last year (been 9 months now! :D)

Cold turkey.

I woke up one day and said "Enough is enough! Cigarettes do NOT control me or my life".

And that was that.

I, too, quit cold turkey 22 years ago after smoking for almost 10 years. I do have to say it was one of the most difficult things I ever did, but you can do it!!!I am also a gum chewer...Every time or place I used to light up a cigarette, I now pull out my gum. I wish you all the luck in the world--I'm cheering for you
