how many of you go to the grocery store after working with patients?
I go to the grocery store after work all the time. When we get to the store we grab a cart ( major organisms here). Even if you went home and showered, we would pick up more germs on those carts than a day at work, because we use are PPE.

nursing home MAR's
In the right hand corner on the mar, we write the date and our initials upon transcription of the order.

Leave the phone at home !!
I know what you mean, I walked into the clean utility room the other day and CNA was in there on the phone. I gave them a written warning, it is posted everywhere no cell phones allowed in the clinical area. I'm sure they all still use them,it will be a matter of time before they get caught and terminated.

What to wear to a job interview
I interview nurses that wear scrubs all the time, they will always say I am on my way to work or just finished my shift.I also interview nurses that have been dressed in suits, I think either one will do. What ever you do , don't wear jeans. I always think if someone comes in wearing jeans, they really don't care about the position. Good Luck

Getting care plan info to your staff
At our facility we use CNA assignment sheets. Each morning we go through all the orders from the previous day, we then give them to the medical records girl and she inputs the information. It is mandatory that everyone carry one in their pocket for their assignment, works great. This are good when someone gets pulled to another unit as well.

New Charge Nurse needs advice with float assignment
I have a CNA float from 11p -3pa on one unit, then go to the other unit from 4a-7a. By doing this it helps out both units, we keep a pull book so everyone shares the wealth. Good Luck

ulcer dressing won't stick
opsite works well in this area, keeps soilage off the dressing as well. Good luck.

Monthly MAR/ TAR order checks
Your right, they need to be checked against the current orders. Sometimes it can take up to 1.5 hours to complete one re-cap. My facility pays overtime to do these so they are not rushed and in turn a decrease of med errors are seen.

Multi Cultural Health Care
Baseline knowledge related to a specific culture can begin to assist a nurse’s development of culturally competent nursing care, such as-does this culture believe in immunizations? It's a process where the nurse continually strives to effectively deliver care within the cultural context of the patient and family, by being educated in cultural awareness and knowledge.Hope this helps.

fellow nurse always "too busy" to help
I would aproach your nurse manager, maybe this nurse should not be in the role of a charge nurse. As a nurse manager myself I would appreciate that you came foreward with this matter. Maybe feel the other nurses out and see what their response is in regards of asking this nurse for help before you speak to your NM. Maybe she does not want to help you, maybe she figures your new and you need to learn.( some nurses think like this unfortanetly)If it were me I would not ask this nurse for help, I would go to the nurse manager and say" is it possible to get some help, I'm a little behind and the charge nurse said she's too busy".

Your Favorite thing about being a nurse? Least favorite?
The favorite thing to me about nursing is it's very versatile. Least favorite= High stress
-
pt fall during shift change
This should be shared by both nurses, it gets done faster and both are thanful for the help. If you both pitch in, one assess the pt. and one call the md., you both chart what you have done.

am I wrong to be upset with this resident?
To protect yourself as well as the resident, call the female resident's family and inform them of the situation. Family would be very upset if something were to happen to her, not to mention the state would be in there so fast. Continue to pass the scenerio on in report as well as charting. Talk with your social worker regarding this, they always come up with good ideas.
