I have a new friend who will be giving birth by c-sec and is due in about one month. I don't know her all that well so I really don't know where to begin, she is not registered anywhere either. She is married and has a toddler at home. Here are some of my ideas if anyone can offer opinions or new ideas that would be great! Thanks!

the what to expect your first year book (thats the title)

dinner gift certificates are a great idea as would be a certificate to babies R US or target. or maybe a certificate for a manicure/peidcure or massage.

Get her the Boppy pillow!! I LOVED that pillow, and would be just right for your mama-to-be!

1. It is great for propping up the baby for nursing and bottle feeding (keeps your arms from getting tired).

2. Double-nice for c-section moms who need that extra padding over the incision site.

3. It helps the older child hold the baby on their lap.

4. As the baby grows, it can still be used, even as a toddler and preschooler.

5. Inexpensive and easy to find...less than $20.00 at Target.

Have fun!:balloons:

The 2 must-have items for my second baby were a chest carrier and a boom box with lullaby CDs. I carried my first baby constantly as she was colicky, and it wasn't a problem. But with a toddler and a newborn, I needed to have my hands free. I couldn't have lived without a carrier. Also, I learned from baby #1 that soothing music made bedtime much more pleasant, so I insisted on a boom box and CDs in each child's room. My favorite (children's) CD is called Collections by a Canadian singer named Fred Penner. I think it's available on Amazon. I also liked having the radio to listen to when I fed the girls at night. It seemed like I wasn't the only person up at 2am! Good luck to your friend!

you can't go with wrong with disposable diapers! You can never get too many.Get a larger size so she can use them later!:biggringi

I think (personally, I have never had a baby) that you should get "mom" a present. Like the above poster said maybe a pedicure/manicure gift certificate. Everyone else she has ever known will be getting her "baby" things, and everytime a friend of mine had a baby I got a few little baby things and a really big box of really good chocolates for them. They always loved it and said how I was the only one who brought them anything.

Maybe if there ia a place that has gift certificates for take-out type food, if she's the type that may not have a steady babysitter to go "out"

how about an offer to do free babysitting for "X" number of hours? Both kids, of course, or maybe just the toddler while Mom goes to MD office or on an errand.

Getting the TODDLER something that will occupy him or her is a great help. DVD's or something like that. A baby doll is great even if the toddler is a boy. They have great baby boy dolls. A new "family" picture frame is a nice gift. Good luck!!:)

I had a cesarean 3 years ago with my last child and what really really helped me was my mother-in-law organized some ladies in our church to bring over dinners for a week. At first I was resistent (false pride or something). But my mil convinced me that letting people help you out is not a bad thing. So each afternoon someone would deliver a meal to us. It was heaven not to cook. :)

We had some lovely meals. One dinner included a large fresh fruit salad that lasted for more than dinner.

Maybe just take a meal or two yourself. Or if you run in the same circle of acquaintances, organize meals for more than a day or two.

Or, you could order a meal from a restaurant and have it delivered.

ITA with the meals. One dish meals that can eaisly be frozen and then warmed in the oven.

I have had nothing but gratitude buying maid services for friends who have had surgery. When the mom goes out, the house work usually falls by the wayside, so a maid service for a day to vacuum and dust is often much appreciated.
