Need to find an accelerated BSN program that I can get into!

Published

Hello,

I am trying to explore my options, and don't know much about specific nursing programs, and how competitive they are.

I slacked off a bit my first couple years of college and will probably have a 2.85 GPA after graduation this May with my BS in Human Biology. I will graduate from an EMT-B program with a 4.0, and also have 10 months experience as a CNA.

Does anybody know of some accelerated second degree BSN programs that I can get into. My GPA doesn't agree, but I really am an excellent student, I just put myself in a difficult situation and need to find a program that I will accept me.

I live in Michigan, and prefer to stay here (in-state tuition), but am willing to move if it is my only option.

Thank you!

Are you looking for ABSN programs that can be completed in a calendar year? This would require current completion if co/pre req's such as A&P 1/2, micro, patho, psych, nutrition, biochem etc. I'm not sure such a program exists. The 'quickest ' I've seen is 18 months with completing a summer term so that all disciplines & specialties are adequately covered in clinical. & theory.

Did you check the BoN website?

Here is a program that the nursing component can be completed in 12 months all non nursing coursework must be completed prior to starting, sciences must be within past 5 years, parts are online but clinical is in NJ

My BSN program is a 16 month program. Obviously, all pre-req's must be completed prior to acceptance.

Specializes in NICU.

I am half way through a 15 month program (all pre-reqs completed before starting).

Are these all ABSNs where you need to have a bachelors first?

This is an intensive accelerated ABSN program that requires a bachelors in another discipline. I believe the others are too

Thanks so much everyone. All of the ones I've looked into require a previous BA or BS and certain prereq courses.

The only one I know of is at George Mason University:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Accelerated Second Degree Pathway - Admissions - College of Health and Human Services - George Mason University

In my area (D.C.), where there are a number of ABSN programs, this 12-month format (vs. just a bit longer at 15/16 months) is not recommended by many.

P.S.

Nevermind. Just realized you were looking for regular BSN programs. Sorry, I don't know how to delete my post! :-)

No you are correct this is the type I was looking for. I'm also considering the 15 to 18 month programs.

Yeah you can't do a traditional BSN program in 12 months... The only programs you can complete in 11 months to 1.5 years are accelerated nursing programs and you need a bachelors and the listed pre-reqs completed before you can apply. So, if you haven't graduated from college yet, the ABSN route isn't for you unless you're a junior or senior. The shortest ABSN program in the US is Drexel's ABSN and it is 11 months long.

I've graduated college so I'm specifically looking for an accelerated program. Initially I was considering 12 month programs but I'm thinking the better option for me would be the longer programs. I'm slightly terrified I will never get into nursing school it's taken me 7 years to get to this point.

You cannot do a BSN in 12 months unless you have done prerequisites or have a previous dergeee.

Why are you "terrified?"
