:uhoh3: Hey all you super nurses and super nursing students out there! I am awaiting the CPNE exam the last weekend in Jan and I heard of a "grid" out there that is taught at the CPNE workshop. My friend said it was great but she can't find it. Does anyone have this and want to share it with me? Also, I am taking the test in Amarillo, Tx. I would appreciate any advice, study hints, really anything you have to offer concerning passing this test. Thanks so much for your time. JAndrew

One thing to point out is that what you may do for a particular area of care is not necessarily what you document for that area of care. My own grid had mneumonics for both what to do and what to document.

Hi everyone, I just passed my last nursing concepts class. Now I'm ready to apply to take the CPNE. Does anyone have anys, advice, pneumonics, or grids that helped them. Anything would be great. Thanks :)

Hello, and congrats on your progress. The scope of your question is rather large, so I would look around these forums a bit. Get the lay of the land so to speak. I have a guide with some advice. The link is in my signature, but I would hold off a bit before downloading it. Another poster, LunahRN, and myself are in the process of updating it. Hopefully the updated version will be ready in a week or so.

Good luck

ivanh3, I would really like to be able to download that guide also. I just got my date today.

You can download it now to get a good idea of what is in it. LunahRN and I have been revising it by adding some of her insight to the process as she is a recent EC grad. Fundamentally, nothing has really changed some small items. Just click on the CPNE notes down below in my signature and it will take you to the download page. When we have finished our revisions we will post an announcement.

i called the mpac today and they are still scheduling people who applied in april... i had to make some changes to my application: i wont be testing until after 2/15/2009 , d/c'd my cancellation date and will be testing in plano only. but in reality i guess that is just about the time i would be testing anyway...maybe...lol

To anyone who is waiting in the wings to take cpne-it is as bad as it is rumored to be ----however it is not about how good of a nurse you are or really how many facts you can pull out of the air .Trust and believe it is about not cracking under imposed pressure/fear.I am now an RN thank the gods and am grateful to have survived the hoops-I am a single mother of a fantastic adopted son have worked 2 jobs forever have now four college degrees and until the cpne thought I was a fairly functional smart gal-Well I flat out failed my first attempt at cpne -cry like a baby indeed -and I don't cry my nickname at work is "the rock" I got wise to what the cpne was all about at least during that 3000 dollar "experience" and returned to racine wis. as soon as I could -this time with enough xanax for each and every day.I am not a bit sorry that yes I self medicated to survive this I was in no way more prepared the second time around re grids, care plans,etc- but I could not be mentally nor emotionally tipped over as easily.I was the one of seven that passed on my weekend and not because I was a better nurse,I know from the short time I spent with my peers they were all truely gifted. My point is to those about to dive in really look at the "experience" for what it actually may be:specs:

Congrats, it sure is a good feeling to refer to the CPNE in past tense!

the grid is going to be your best friend during your pcs. Memorize it...do the test...then, forget it.

Know the CE backwards and forwards, don't be rude or cocky to the examiners, practice your labs and skills with someone observing you. I hope this helps.

Critical elements yes-be yourself nobody goes to cpne trying to be rude tscared to death maybe

Time yourself on everything. Know how long it takes you to do the simulated labs. Know how long it takes you to do the care plan and how long it takes you to write out a simulated documentation on something. Practice the 20 min requirements---how long does it take, etc. I knew that I could do the labs in 5 minutes. If I really relaxed, I could take 7 minutes. I had 15 minutes to do them. Knowing this allowed me to relax and really think about what I was doing. I timed myself doing everything over and over. I knew I needed 10 minutes to put together a nursing care plan at the beginning. I knew I needed 20 minutes for the evaluation part at the end of each PCS. The CPNE is a timed test.
