I am trying to sort out the info for Excelsior & need a little help. Can I get study material from eBay, yahoo, etc & contact Pearson to schedule test dates prior to enrolling. Basically I am looking to do this for the core classes if possible. Also, do I have to pay the $190 (3 credit) $220 (4 credit) & $280 (6 credit) for each exam if I am not purchasing the guided learning material? Can someone please get me very clear cut answers to what I will be "required" to pay for other than the enrollment, application, student services, CPNE, grad fees? Thanks so much for helping me sort out all the options a little clearer! Have a blessed day.
If you check out their website http://www.excelsior.edu, you can find out what exactly you need. It's the same pre-reqs as a regular school.
The current booklist for Excelsior can be found on their website. Each study guide also has the booklist in it. These textbooks can be purchased used on ebay. If one really wants to save money, they can buy an earlier edition. In general, there is not really a necessity to have the latest edition for the Excelsior nrsg concepts exams.
You can cut this middle man out and do your own studying and searching for materials needed for the course and save yoursef 4-5k based on what I see people paying for RUE and or The College Network. BUT what you can do is buy the TCN/RUE study books off of ebay and safe yourself 500-700$ per study book, if you feel you need such a condensed version of the text book (basically what the publishing companies do).
Yes, I have been winging it alone getting my materila together with Excelsior, and having success finding materials, etc. Some of the books I bought used on the internet though amazon, and I even found some of the texts through interlibrary loan.

Will I get accepted into Excelsior although I am a CNA?
ec will not accept you as a student unless you are a lvn, paramedic, rt or have completed at least 50% of a rn program. there are other qualifications but they dealing with doctors and midwives things like that.

You should email the excelsior admissions office (there's a link at excelsior.edu,) but I do think you either need to be an LPN, or have three semesters of clinical in an RN program. I am sure there are also other types of backgrounds they will accept, so you have to run your experience by them.

That link does not work but there is a yahoo group with the name of rnstudygroup (all one word and all lowercase). I agree that I found a lot of help and support in this group.
