I am currently at a local community college, finishing up my pre requisites...And I need some advice...I recently took an anatomy class at this college, and our class caught our instructor grading unfairly...Such as several of us put the same answer on an exam, she marked some of us right and some of us wrong... We pointed this out to her hoping she had made an honest error, and instead she snatched our exams from us and told us "to quit scrounging for points" This continued for the following 8 exams. 11 of us decided to take pictures of our exams to prove this. We then put a letter together, had most of the class sign it, and we turned it in to the President of academic affairs...We thought he would help, but no help so far...We attended a board meeting and went on the record, and we have a scheduled meeting with the Dean, & President again this week. Needless to say, the teacher failed the ones who signed this letter. I have 70 units at this college, mostly excellent grades, with the exception of this "F" on my transcript...I am challenging my grade as I feel I was cheated out of points on my exams...Then we found out that this is not a 2 year community college course, it is a MASTERS DEGREE anatomy course. They are trying to pass it off as a beginning course, when it is clearly not. I have since registered at another community college to finish up my last 2 classes, and I am tempted to sign up at a private nursing school. I don't mind paying out the wazoo, as long as its a fair grading scale...Any advice as how we should handle this horrible grade as a class?? We have pictures in black and white where she marked us differently for the same answer and also she would deduct 6 1/2 points on a 4 point question. Refuses to give us our points...
I didn't even think of that one. That's a good idea to look at it that way. I feel confident in my anatomy knowledge because I studied so hard, and I remember a lot. I'm not an "A" student, I'm a B average. My point with the teacher was that the whole class didn't become "F" students overnight. Even if I have to re-take this class it will just make me a better nurse. The road is hard but I will appreciate it more when I am finished. I went to a new community college & I am registered for this fall. It seems like a breath of fresh air at the new college. I'm sad because the rest of my teachers were really great. I learned so much from them. One bad apple can spoil the bunch.
I'm sorry. That course description sounds exactly like my school except my school had cadavers for the lab and we had to spell everything correctly. Not sure what level of detail you thought was too much. Again like I said before i would not focus on this detail as it is subjective and does not really support your case.
Were your exams essay type questions or multiple choice? In my anatomy course, we had a comprehensive take home exam that we were allowed to work together on but you had to answer the questions in your own words. None of the students who worked together received the same grade. Because we had a week to work on it, the instructor made it perfectly clear that the answers had to be as detailed as possible. Those who wrote their answers out like a novel, received an 'A' and those who gave short answers received something less. They were upset about it but they really didnt have a leg to stand on.
Here is also a link to her rate my professor, which I didn't find until it was too late. But it seems the students are consistent..(Mod note unauthorized link removed)
You'd do better asking former students about faculty than going on Rate My Professor. This is a very biased site. Any student with an axe to grind will log on & trash their professor. Someone who had a positive experience will most likely not go there. Besides, you can rate any professor & never have to prove you've ever taken a class with them.

the failing grade will stay on your transcript and may impact you later, what was the resolution with the original cc and why did you sign up for a masters level course?
It is being passed off as an entry level course. One secretary at the college said its a Master's Degree course, the other lady who works there said it is a sophomore level course. It is being taught in the "style" of a Master's degree course which is misleading to the students. We have licensed, working LVN's that did not pass this class. Some students were on the Dean's list and failed.

RateMyProfessor can be a good guide if you keep I mind that the popularity and "hotness" factor often weigh in heavily. My husband has all very good ratings except for one, given by a student who was mad because she got a "B" instead of the "A" she had expected. According to my husband, the "B" was about half gift. If she'd kept her big fat mouth shut, he would have no idea who gave him the lukewarm evaluation.
Here's one of his helpful ratings:
Dr. __ is easily the best professor I have ever had in college. The amount of knowledge this man has is unbelievable. He just may be the most intelligent man I know. Take him for every class possible.
Here's a lukewarm, less unhelpful one:
The teacher is fair and understanding, but i did not learn from this class at all. Ineffective assessment of learning.
Which one tells you more?
