NCTC ADN Fall 2014

U.S.A. Texas

I just wondering if there are others out there applying this May for the Fall 2014 class. I just found out I have everything to apply at NCTC but with a B in A&P I I only have 10 points and I'm not sure if I will make the cut. Anyone else?

When I filled out my application today, the secretary said they would input the class with the higher grade when reviewing the application even though the degree audit used a class with a C.

Thanks TWishes, I don't understand how they make those mistakes on the degree audit but apparently it happens pretty often so I'm hopeful the people in the nursing program know to look that degree audit over VERY carefully. It even shows my A in the list of unused classes listed at the bottom. I will be going up Monday--I have other stuff I need to do there so I waited to take care of it all at once. I'm not sure if I will have 10 or 11. I think 10. My degree audit didn't have a GPA printed on it, did yours?

I cannot remember if it listed a GPA. I don't think it did. Good luck!

Just fyi, I had to call up to the main campus and noted that I made 2 attempts to get a correct degree audit. I would follow up with an on campus visit to verify that all has been updated correctly. Best of luck to all applying for the Fall!

Well, I came to start the thread, but you guys are already on top of it!

Good luck to those of you that are applying for the fall. I am a third semester student and I like to come back and help you guys answer questions and get things sorted out. I know there are a billion things to get in order, so hopefully I can shed some light on a few things. After reading your posts, there are a few things that I think I can help you with!

For priority points, 10 and 11 and even 9 should be adequate. The application process is two rounds. The first is when they look at PP and send out test invitations. The second is where the look at the test scores and pick the highest grades. Where the PP really come into play is if they have multiple people with the same test score, but only one or two more seats left. In that case, they look at who has the highest PP or highest GPA as the determining factor. So, all of that to say - do well on the Kaplan and you'll be fine.

The Kaplan is harder than the HESI because of the AP portion of the test. The AP portion is more of an NCLEX style test and it is testing your critical thinking more so than your nursing knowledge. I used a HESI study guide for the reading, writing and math portions of the test and I did just fine. You can do the same and be fine as well. Don't freak out of the AP portion because there really is no way to study for it. Plan to read each questions carefully and just think it through. Where you can help yourself is to be prepared for the other portions of the tests and make good grades in those areas. Each portion is graded individually and then averaged together.

Just about everyone in my class lives some where other than Gainesville and it sounds like y'all are in the same boat! It would be a good idea for you guys to carpool if you can. We have people that meet at the NCTC campus in Corinth, people that meet at the Medical Center of Lewisville and others that meet at the Cracker Barrell off 35 in Denton. Just pick a place and ride together! Gas is too high for everyone to be driving to Gainesville three times a week!

I think that is all that I can contribute for now. Good luck and be ready to get to work when you're accepted!!

Thanks jls0459, help & words of encouragement from someone who has been through it and is already in the program are so valuable! I really appreciate it. I actually had read the thread your group had going when you were going through the application process already too. Just knowing we are all in the same boat (or were in your case) somehow is reassuring.

Finding a carpool group is excellent advise too. We do need to do that! I think we are all so focused on finishing this semester, getting the application done & studying for the kaplan that we haven't looked past it!

I have been going over my APII physiology notes on the systems that the website says are on the test just because my APII class was about a year ago, but it gets overwhelming, there is alot they could ask. I figure refreshing things can only help. (Hopefully). I will go back to my hesi book for my reading etc. too. Thanks for that advise.

I live off 121 & 35, technically in The Colony so a Lewisville carpool group would be great, anyone else on that 35 corridor interested in carpooling?

A good place for you guys to look might be Quizlet. They have a bunch of practice questions that might help out.

Thanks again for the info, jls0459.

I live in the Lantana/Argyle area...I hope to find another person to carpool with.

I am studying for the Kaplan, and I am super nervous. The Kaplan is stressing me out...on the one had I feel like it won't be too hard and then I have nightmares where I go take the test and don't know anything at all! :-/ I wish I could figure out how to study for the A&P portion too, I have been looking at my A&P II book mostly.

Aww don't panic! It will be okay.

I feel the same way....stressed! But I guess there's always going to be something stressful so I'm trying to keep it in perspective.

So, there is just a week left in the application period. Keep an eye on the "applying for the next class" page because that is where they updated things the most. If they send out a letter or know about a date, they will post it there. Good luck ladies/gents!

NCTC posted that 78 applications have been received for the ADN program and letters will go out sometime next week regarding those invited to take the Kaplan exam.
