NCTC ADN Fall 2014

Published

I just wondering if there are others out there applying this May for the Fall 2014 class. I just found out I have everything to apply at NCTC but with a B in A&P I I only have 10 points and I'm not sure if I will make the cut. Anyone else?

Thanks for your input jls0459, especially since you are in the program. That was my thoughts exactly on the smaller class size & why I am leaning so strongly towards NCTC. I do believe they are paired with Tech & Midwestern, but like you said, that could change in two years. I have had a very positive experience with the staff and both school but honestly, I feel more of a bond at NCTC already. I think my decision is made, I was just wanting a little feedback & I was fairly drawn to the partner agreements Grayson has in place. But I can create my future no matter where I am, it's in my hands.

I'm doing the BSN bridge also. Not particular on who they use personally, as long as I get my BSN in the end.

There wont be anything stopping you from going to TWU or UTA when you finish the ADN program if you choose to do so, they just are not currently partnered with NCTC. A lot can change in two years though, so just keep your mind open!

Congratulation Shine_on for your acceptance to Grayson!! I'm hoping to be at NCTC as well. I've looked around and decided from talking to RNs that I've met that NCTC has a very well respected reputation and you will be prepared.

I'm also pursuing a BSN. I like Tech (my son is attending there) so I'm familiar with their program.

Whatever you choose, I'm just happy to see all of you get started. I know that the road just to get to the point where you can apply for nursing school is a tough one, so applying and getting accepted is a great achievement. I've always laughed at how we've had to work so hard just to get to the point where we could finally work harder, but it is all for a good reason!

No matter where you go - congrats on being there!!

Thank you everyone for your support and opinions. I have chosen to stay with my NCTC decision. Both schools are good, but NCTC, I think, with the smaller class size will be a better fit for me and probably afford me opportunities I wouldn't have with a group 3x the size. You are all exactly right, I can go where I chose for my RN-BSN bridge even if it's not a partner school. But putting myself in the best place for me to get my RN initially is important. Looking so forward to meeting everyone! You guys are all so awesome.

Happy you decided to stay!

Did yall see this on the ADN page? It may have been there before and I just overlooked it. It looks like it will be about three more weeks before your packets arrive.

"Acceptance letters will not go out until we have received clearance from the Board of Nursing, which usually takes two weeks. We hope to send these letters out by July 11th if possible."

Yes, read that and that's one reason that I am not certain that I will make it into this class. I scored above the 71 cutoff but if other students scored higher and more often, then I will be one of the last applicants. I just hope that they do not run out of slots before they get to my name/ranking on exam. I will not relax and breathe completely until that letter is in my hands confirming my start date! Sorry to sound nervous but I am a little. ;)

Everyone take a deep breath! I'm Amanda - the Student Nurses Association president. Hi to everyone and congrats!

If you scored above the cutoff, you are tentatively in the program. They are not going to run out of slots. The staff specifically counts the highest scores for each spot in the program. The last person's score is the cutoff score.

J has given y'all some great advice with what you need. Some books you can get ahead of time are a nurses drug guide - get one with online access. You'll thank me later. You also need a nursing care plan book. I really like the one from Ackley. It also pairs very well with the other books you will be buying in your huge box o' books. You also need a medical dictionary and a labs and diagnostic book. I use this one. Amazon.com: A Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (Manual of Laboratory & Diagnostic Tests) (9780781771948): Frances Fischbach RN BSN MSN, Marshall B. Dunning III BS MS PhD: Books

Class scrubs need to be Landau True Red - any style is okay as long as they are True Red. Also, at orientation, there will be a scrub store there that will have scrubs and accessories for y'all to buy.

If you have any other questions, please ask away! I'll try to check in here as often as I can!

Yeah I saw that. Seems like such a long time!

Dear amandacam, thank you for that important piece of info. Feels a lot better to breath now! Lol :) I appreciate you offering up your insights. Also, I'm sure we will be able to find out more about the student nurses association which I would be interested in participating in. When will we be allowed to join?
