NCLEX without CGFNS

Published

hi!! i've heard that some states do not require cgfns, how true is this? if indeed this is true, what are the other requirements one needs to complete in order to take the nclex? all i know is that you need to pass the ces and take the att, am i right? can anyone please tell me the step-by-step process?

thanx and god bless!

That is old information about the CGFNS exam being needed. It is actually needed by only four states, where you cannot even endorse without having it.

New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan require it even for endorsement.

Pennsylvania requires it only for initial licensure, not if you are endorsing to there.

85% require the CES. Not the exam. This is what it should say now.

Hope that this clears it up. CGFNS is a private company under contract with the US. They are trying to sell their programs. Check with the Board of Nursing that you are interested in.

Even Illinois changed last July, they only require the CES now, no longer the CGFNS exam. Before you needed the exam to just endorse. And they made up the fifth state.

Hi suzanne4! sorry for my ignorance but can i ask you a question? what do you mean by 'to endorse'? if i have a licence in 1 state and endorse it to another, can i work in both states or i give up the other licence? where do i apply for the endorsement, the recipient state? thank you

When you endorse, you gain another license. Iw ork with some nurses that are licensed in about 15 different states, as they do travel nurisng here in the US. Once you get a license in a state, as long as you continue to meet their requirements for renewing and pay the fee, you can keep it.

You apply for endorsement to the new state..........and just follow what the application states for "License by Endorsement" ----- but be aware that you actually need to have a license number before you can endorse.

thank you suzanne4. you're beautiful.

My understanding about ATT is this.. you get your ATT once approved by the BON and you have a year to register for the exam. After registration, you have 90 days to schedule the final date of your exam. Is this correct? So sorry, informations have been mixing up in my head already that's making me confused.

You get an eligibility letter first from your respective State BON then you may register to pearsonvue to get your ATT after you pay $200. The Email version will be emailed to you usually within 5-10 mins. after registration and payment while the snail mail version will be snail mailed within 7-10 days. You pay another $150 if you are going to schedule your exam outside the US and its territories.

The elegibility letter contains all the info. on how much time you have to register for the the exam in pearsonvue and it differs for each state. E.g. NY requires you to take the exam w/in 90 days from the date of being eligible; for CA its 365 days. RE-take of exam also differs for each state but it usu. it is 45-90 days after the last exam date.

ALL relevant info. on how long you have to take the exams, etc.. are in the eligibility letter (so wait for it) and ALL info. on how to register to pearsonvue, etc.. is in the handbook included w/ the eligibility letter.

The cgfns exam is not required? Is this for licensure with exam or are you talking about endorsement licensure?

What if I received a eligibility letter fron NYBON and I dont want to register to pearson vue yet, is there any expiration for the eligibility letter,:jester:

NY does not require the CGFNS exam.
