Don't freak out about SATA questions on the NCLEX. I had about 20 SATA/ alt. format on my test and passed at 75. I guarantee that I got most of the SATA wrong. NCLEX is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT). Each correct answer results in a tougher question. Each wrong answer results in an easier question. The test is looking for the Level of Difficulty that you consistently answer correctly. I would get a multi. choice right, then SATA, answer SATA wrong, get multi. choice, get multi choice right, get SATA. You can get 50% of the questions wrong and still pass NCLEX.
I had around 20 or so SATA questions and passed at 96 questions. SATA questions are the hardest styled questions out there for the NCLEX. Not sure how true this is, but we were told that if you came across numerous SATA questions, you are "on the right track" in testing because the more questions you get right, the hard the questions get. Again, not sure how accurate that info was because I had classmates that had almost all SATA questions and passed at 75, whereas I had much less. I did have some SATA questions which I had no idea how to answer even to the point where I couldn't even get rid of any answers. I simply just did not know what that question was about or what topic it was pertaining to.
I took it a few days ago & the Sata q's I got were easier than the multiple choice. No tricks, pretty straight-forward. I got 150 q's (passed) and I didn't count Sata q's but there weren't many. Bigger than Sata questions is not freaking out or tuning out - if the box is still asking you questions, you're still in the game. A couple of my classmates timed/maxed out the test with 265 & failed & one passed with 256, so it's nerves that will get you more than they type of question. Many of the questions I got were easy, straightforward answers. My last question was a simple Iv math question, only difficult because I'd already answered 149 other questions.
I passed the NCLEX first try with 75 questions in an hour and a half. I took the test Monday and got my results this morning :) I had about 20-25 SATAs, 1 drag and drop, no EKGs, a few pharm, no computations, 1 delegation and a lot of prioritization and education. I agree with CSTtoRN...UWORLD was awesome!! The NCLEX wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I owe it all to UWORLD! For those of you who never heard of UWORLD: It's a test bank of approximately 2000 high rated questions with lots of SATAs. IMO....UWORLD questions were more difficult than the NCLEX itself. I Also used the NCLEX Mastery APP, Lippincott's NCLEX-RN Alternate-format questions (this book had great questions but the rationales were okay) and LaCharity's Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment book (GET this book! You need to know PDAs for the NCLEX; there's no way around it) and I focused on the chapter questions and did a few case studies for a challenge . Using UWORLD has helped me with the SATAs; to the point that I was looking forward to them on the NCLEX. Search for UWORLD on allnurses for more information. Good luck to all!!

I am about four months from graduating from RN school and have heard horror stories about the amount of select all that apply questions given. Of course I know that every NCLEX test is different, but hearing that almost every question given may be select all that apply is a little frightening. If you have taken the test recently do you feel like the majority of the questions were select all that apply?
