Welcome, I enjoyed viewing the January 2017 Topic. This post is for all those who are taking their NCLEX RN in February. Please share how you guys are doing with your review? What materials are you using? Lets do the same and encourage each other. Thanks
Backstory (My nursing school journey):
Hey Everyone! So I took my NCLEX today it was scheduled for 12, showed about 45 mins early. Got my ATT card monday (had a lot of trouble getting it, PA state board was not very organized) and decided to rip the bandaid off and take it Wednesday. A bit of a backstory. I was supposed to graduated May 2016, but my school changed a policy where our HESI exam counted towards our exam average and with it factored into my exam average it brought me below the 72 average we needed (there were only two others exams in the class). I was so angry but decided to take that anger and channel it into studying. I spent the whole summer studying for my HESI and received a 900... a 401 point improvement and a sign that I would definitely graduated in December!! I was so excited! It sucked having to retake one course that I technically already passed but I remained positive. I struggled throughout nursing school because I suffered extreme exam anxiety and my knowledge was not portrayed by my test grades, but I also went to my teachers office hours and studied like a mad women and ended up passing everything on the first try. I also ended up graduating with over a 3.0! With this all being said I knew I had to study my butt off!
How I prepared:
I took a Kaplan Live review course(which the school made us do) and its was VERY helpful. I did all the question trainers and remediated every wrong answer by looking it up in my Saunder's book. I did tons of q bank questions and did the same for them. I then switched over to Uworld and did 75-150 questions a day ( that is what my Kaplan teacher suggested to do to not exceed 150 questions a day) I remediated all of them as well (U world provided wonderful rationales and you can make study notes). Last night I was SO anxious so I went over this 35 page study guide I found highlighted it and reviewed it. I can email it to you if you comment your email!
Test Day:
As I mentioned in the first line I showed up EARLY which is key because they will let you start earlier. The test people could not have been nicer! Bring an ID (license, passport) with the exact spelling of your FIRST and LAST name and a signature, it is OKAY if it only has your middle INITAL!! There are lockers (at least at my test center) to put your phone in, and whatever else! You will be brought to your computer and your journey begins! I had at least 10-15 select all the apply a crap ton of priority questions, and to my surprise no math! My computer shut off after 110 questions, I took about an hour to finish. I was kinda nervous that it did not shut off at 75, but I kept pushing through and just realized the computer is just giving me more chances to pass! After I got in the car I did the Pearson Vue trick and got the GOOD POPUP! I did it again once I was home same thing, I will know my official results in 24-48 hours , but I am hopeful!
Overall Advice:
My overall advice is to STAY CALM , I know easier said then done! I am probably one of the most anxious people, but just keep reminding yourself you can do it, if the computer does not shut off at 75 KEEP GOING. It is not the AMOUNT of questions you get that determines you pass! Make sure you study almost everyday but allow for yourself to keep a social life! During the test do not think about a job offer you may have(which I do have), do not think about if the question is a passing level question or not, just think about each question and each answer! YOU CAN DO IT :)
PS... Sorry this was so long, I was wanted to give as much advice as I can and provided the back story to show you do not need to be the PERFECT nursing student to be successful!
PPS... DO NOT tell a lot of people when your taking it, it will add pressure. I only told a few very close friends, my boyfriend, and my parents.
Congrats on passing!!! I took my NCLEX yesterday. It shut off at 75 questions and I've been getting the good pop up all day! I was feeling pretty confident until I found out all my other classmates who took their NCLEX yesterday already have their license number on BON but I'm the only one who does not. They all took it at 0800 and I took mine at 1030. I'm hoping the time difference is the only reason I haven't gotten a license number yet. It's hard not to feel discouraged though í ½í¸”
No Problem, I will! It took me a week of crying and being angry after not graduating to start being positive! I was also very lucky to have a great support system!Praying for you!!! @nurselola16 & I love your positivity @jennaem1!! I really needed it today after what I've been through. I find out tmw for sure though so pray for me!

@leann16 I feel somewhat compelled to complete it like I do with everything else because I hate to waste money but i hate the rationales and also a couple of times while I was doing the qbanks, my internet cramped out and they graded me from that (I couldn't restart or reset it), so that drags my score down. My school also pushes a lot to get the benchmark score, they care more about that than content. I bought uworld today so we shall see.
