Nclex-Rn Fail

Published

Okay so im going to be totally open, honest, and put myself out there'

I have failed the Nclex-Rn Exam 4 times and I am on my 5th attempt. I am desperately needing to know if there is anyone else out there who is in my position or has been in my position? I was in the top 5 of my graduating rn class, I study hard throughout all of my failed attempts.. for instance ive saved every stitch of paperwork and books from school. i would read my lpn book, lpn notes, rn book, rn notes and answer questions out of lippincott, saunders, mosby, rea, frye, question books i have looked over the hurst review. and all of my feedback from doing this was well. so when i failed the third time going in for my fourth attempt i spent the $500 bucks to take the kaplan review according to kaplan they claim that when you take the qbank questions and the qtrainer 6 and 7 is to make your goal 60% or as close to 60% as you can get and compare your results to 50%. in order to pass the nclex exam. so I was scoring 60 percent even a little higher. i take it a fourth time i recieved the whole 265 questions. and still failed. ive went back to kaplan and have studied some more and i am planning to spend another 300 to get more qbank questions and make my goal at least in the 70-80% range that maybe im needing to score higher. i dont want to give up on this at all i have got way to much time and money invested in this and its worth it to me to be a registered nurse I so desperately want this! Im just asking if there is anyone out there that has been in this position, is in this position, or knows of someone who was in this position? I need to know if this is still obtainable or is the writing on the wall for me? i feel so sick to my stomach i cant believe its come to this at all. if anyone can help i would be greatful

Lauren,

I have not been in your position but I do believe that a long as your do not give up you will pass. What I suggest is not purchasing another study material but study the test taking tips and how to look at the questions are being given. I recently took the test and only reviewed the tips on how to look at the questions and this is seemed to help a lot......

i am also in your position I just took the exam in Sept, did the pearson vue trick only to discover I failed again for the fourth time. :( i have a ton of nclex review books you name i have them. I have also gone to review courses and still cant seem to pass this exam...what are we doing wrong?:confused:

Hi Lauren,

You re not alone. I just found out that I failed on my first attempt. I did pretty well in nursing school and my friends also could not believe that I failed :confused: I don't know what did i do wrong...I studied a lot for a month. I did a lot Kaplan questions and review Saunders book...During the exam, I was very anxious and nervous...idk how to fix it? I'm so down :bluecry1::bluecry1::no:

WE WILL Master this NCLEX-RN

We ARE RN"S

I AM AN RN

Our day is Soon

My Day is Now!!!!!!!!

We must believe in ourselves

Taking exam Thursday.

Walking by FAITH

I take my NCLEX on wed and I'm just throwing this out there but it sounds like when you take the NCLEX you totally forget the way to answer those questions. You have to remember it all about keeping the patient safe. Safe from themselves, other patients, infections and after they leave the hospital.

Also remember some of the answers are easier than you think. For example, A postoperative client is returned to the assigned room from the surgical recovery area. The client is sleeping, and the nurse notes that the client is disoriented when aroused. Which of the following actions, if taken by the nurse, is BEST?

Ans = Elevate side rails until patient is fully awake

Rat - Side rails should ALWAYS be raised with a disoriented client

OR

The nurse cares for a client receiving amphotericin B (Fungizone) 1 mg in 250 ml of 5% dextrose in water IV over a 2-hour period. The nurse is MOST concerned if which of the following is observed?

Ans - BP 90/60, complaints of fever and chills

Rat - monitor vital signs every 30 minutes for medication SE's

If you see chills and fever its most likely the right answer if looking for MOST concerned or what pt to see or call back FIRST. Obviously there are exceptions.

ITS ALL ABOUT SAFETY

Lauren and meligart235..... DO NOT DESPAIR!!! I passed on my 5th attempt and was also a great student throughout all of nursing school. Do not beat up on yourself, give yourself some space. The NCLEX is not like any other test you have ever encountered, and remember you only have to pass it ONE time. You need to think like the they want you to think, even though it might not seem logical to you or make sense or apply to real world situations. DO NOT spend more money on reviews or questions; you can get everything you need from off of the internet. Approach this like it is the first time you have ever taken NCLEX and change the way you are studying, because it didn't work previously. Don't worry about what other's may think or that they think badly about you because you haven't passed. It simply isn't true..... worry about believing in yourself, and knowing that you CAN pass this test. It is not a reflection of the great nurse you will be when you have RN after your name, this is just a bump in the road getting to that title. DO NOT GIVE UP and continue to go after this with a fierce vengeance. When it gets to this point, it is now about believing in yourself, letting go of the anxiety and frustration and knowing that you WILL pass this test no matter what or when. Know your core content, practice questions (you can find a link to NCLEX 3500 or 4000), and get a copy of LaCharity's Prioritization, Delegation & Assignment workbook to help with those priority questions. Don't overstudy or understudy.... you know your stuff, so review and focus on practicing questions. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! You will get lots of support and encouragement from this site, so come back and ask for it. If you have any questions or are just need to talk feel free to message me..... I've been in your shoes, so you can always bounce things off of me. HANG IN THERE AND DON"T GIVE UP!!!! :yelclap::rckn::flwrhrts:

This might help ya ...

Think positive .... Positive things happen to positive people ....

Thank you sooo much for the words of encouragement because I honestly just want to give it all up. I have been an LVN for many years and passed the exam on the first try, I think this is what makes me feel so down also because I know I can do this. I love nursing and helping others, I am currently working at a Recuperative Care Homeless Shelter and have been in the LA Times. Well back to studying...and again thanks for the support!

I can totally relate! I've failed the nclex twice. And am afraid to take it a third time and failing too.

Its been 2.5 years since i graduated nursing school and a year since the last time i took the nclex. I don't want to waste any more time. All my friends have passed on the first attempt and those that didn't passed on their second.

I just recently moved to Little Rock, AR...so if anyone needs a study partner or knows of someone who does like NCLEX tutoring please let me know.

Thankyou everyone for your comments and helpful advice! I went ahead and ordered the prioritization, delegation and assignment workbook by lacharity - it should be here in 3-5, I've also went ahead and downloaded both the nclex 3500 and the scribd.com website, and I did review kim's thread. I am determined more than ever now and it is good to know that I am not the ONLY one. Thankyou so much it was well needed words of encouragement! and now i have my workboots on and getting my ass into gear! I will write back when I have the good News ....THAT I PASSED! lol

very greateful

lauren

I Just wanted to take a moment and say Thankyou! To everyone who responded and gave me hope when I was losing it.. Update: I took my state boards for the 5 th time .. And I PASSED! :D i am now an RN!

My advice to everyone out there who are struggling it is possible to pass! There is hope!! Dont give up! And you can pass even on your 5th attempt! Dont let anyone make you feel like you dont deserve it or cant do it! I credit kaplan to my success the 500 dollar class is well worth the money. The decision tree is golden! And the questions i believe our top notch to what the boards really are. Like i said dont lose the faith god is with us all!!
