NCLEX-PN New Format?

Published

I was being told that their is a new format for the NCLEX-PN? What is this people are talking about?

The "new" test started on April 1st, 2008.

From what I understand the changes are more questions that are SATA, placing steps in order, marking an area (ie, where would you put eye drops, and they have a picture of an eye, you click where you'd put it).

And the passing rate was upped 2 or 3% from the previous test. I think it was a 61 now its 63? I could be wrong about the exact pass rate score.

Sorry, but not correct entirely.

All that test get 50% correct and 50% incorrect. It is the level that one gets the questions at that determines whether one passes or not. There has never been a numberical score given since the NCLEX exam came out years ago. The percentage increase in passing has gone up by a decimal point, not several percentage points and not with those numbers.

Same as with the RN exam, it is scored the same way.

This should explain it a bit more https://www.ncsbn.org/1381.htm

if there isn't any scoring involved then how does the HI BON license ask for a passing score greater than 350?

i'm confused too. i never got back an actual score from Pearson Vue, probably b/c i moved soon after taking the test and have been content with just knowing that i had passed by checking the online license verification.

I am so confused about this new format for the NCLEX-PN, as well as the exit-predictor testing we have had over the past few weeks in school....what exactly does it mean if I scored a "56" which, according to the proctor, is very good, when I actually missed 25 of 61 questions (61 was the minimum amount given in this test - 180 the most)

There is no actual score when you get your results, the states do not even get an actual score as there is not one, that is not how passing is determined in this exam.

All results are only in the format of pass or no pass, nothing else is offered.

You may wish to reread the requirements for the BON that you are looking at and see if it was results for the actual NCLEX exam or the original state board that no longer exists. That may be what you are getting mixed up with.

From what I understand, the standards for passing are alot higher. Ive heard the new exam is alot more difficult. Ive been told that in order to pass you MUST have gotten correct 70 new format questions period end of story. Also, if you get a question wrong it doesnt ever go away but will continue to come back until you get it right. Of course, it will not be presented the same way. ( I guess that is why it's been said it is more difficult) All this came from a reliable source. Not to worry all we can do is our best and do our best we will.... no matter how many times we may need to do it.

I just want to touch briefly on the predictor test. I had to pass a RN predictor course before my schoo allowed me to take NCLEX....We had Kaplan or ATI.....ATI you had to get at 62 or above and this predicted 90% pass rate for NCLEX...Kaplan you had to get above 65% with their readiness test to be 90% or more guarateed to pass boards. The NCLEX test itself as it has been stated is not based on a score like these predictor test, it goes by the type of questions at least for RN...I was a LPN for 11yrs when I took the test we didnt have SATA so I know things have definetly changed

This site helped me to understand better how computer determines if you passed or did not pass NCLEX-PN

That was from the original state board exam that was offered by the state before the NCLEX started. The only score that is given out now is pass or no pass. There is no numerical score issued and has not been in years.
