So I have taken the Nclex PN twice and I have failed both times . At this point im so ready to give up, but i know that i cant. This is my dream, i have always wanted to be a nurse. I worked so hard throigh nursing school and made it out. I CAN NOT give up. I have studied Kaplan and Exam Cram. I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what to study, and if you knew anything online that i could study ex: practice questions. Preferably something that doesnt cost.

Do not rush to resit exam and look at how you studied last time.
My suggestions
Pick one or two review materials and stick to them only, do not get bogged down with many sources as it will get confusing.
Practice questions and read the rationale, even if you get it right. It will help you understand what the questions are asking and what to look for in the way the question is asked
Do not over do it with time, ie study all day. look at doing a couple of solid hours of studying ideally with no interruptions and if this means closing AN or FB then do it
Only study material if you are having difficult answer the questions, ie struggling with obstetrics so read up on obstetrics
diana2520 it wont let me reply to your pm.
site requirements are 15 or more posts to be able to reply to a pm that is sent to you
yeah i just seen that =/

i know it’s frustrating but never give up on your dream if that’s what you really want. i don’t think the nclex determines if you’re a good or bad nurse it’s a big reading exam. for starter you probably need to examine your weak areas. i would highly recommend saunders 5th edition it’s about 25 to 30 bucks on amazon a small investment for what your preparing for and answer at least 100 question per week. you will know that you’re ready for the nclex if you reach scores of 85% or better in all areas. also this is advice that my instructor gave us. make sure that you practice on breaking each question down into these categories.
1. maslow hierachy of needs in this order physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.
2. bloom’s taxonomy for thinking in this order knowledge, comprehension, application analysis, synthesis, and evaluation,
3.the nursing process in this order assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
i’ll give an examples and if it’s not clear to you just pm me.
ok, so before you answer the question break it down into each category. in maslow it would be physiological because it’s dealing with circulation, in bloom’s taxonomy it would be comprehension because you need to understand the circulation of an infant and where to locate it, and in the nursing process it would be assessing because you’re receiving data. so the answer would be 3. the brachial because the infant’s short fat neck makes palpation of the carotid artery difficult. the other areas are also difficult to palpate in an infant.
if you can practice on breaking down your question this way i know you’ll have no problem in passing the boards. just believe in yourself and know whatever the mind can conceive it can achieve with persistence and hard work and lots of pray. it took me a while to learn how to break the question down this way however it’s doable. good luck to you and i know you can do it.

The longer you're out of nursing school, the more you forget. I don't think the study book is the only source you should be looking at. That is for those that have already mastered the basics. I would review past content and do a prep program as well, and I'd study at least 3 hours/day.

When I graduated my LPN program I knew what my strengths were, I knew what I needed to study.
I had great instructors who let us know exactly what we needed to focus on.
Did I know everything? No. There were a few questions that I swear I didn't know the answer to.
Focus on your weaknesses but don't forget to keep what comes easy to you fresh. I lucked out and was able to relate a lot of my questions to actual patients I took care of in clinicals.
Use Saunders or whatever you prefer to quiz yourself.
I totally agree with Cynthia104 she has great tips that apply to testing and real nursing.
For the actual testing arrive a little early, don't rush around before you get there. Stay calm, Read each question carefully and thoroughly. Don't read more into the question. If you do not know the answer try to relate it to something you do know and find the best answer.

Don't call yourself a failure, you gave it your best and you didn't pass. It happens all the time, this is a difficult exam and unfortuantely graduating from a nursing program does not guarantee passing NCLEX. Don't give up, you can do it!

Only used Exam Cram PN practice question book. I studied it twice. Once in the book & then on the cd. I passed my Nclex PN on Monday w/ 85 questions in 2 hours! Focus on strategies to use when nothing else works when answering questions.
