Took The Nclex Yesterday & Ran Out Of Time!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I cried for 3 hrs and my eyes were burning me for the rest of the day. I panicked when I saw that I had 20 minutes to answer 115 questions or so, so I started rushing through my last questions and I only got up to 210. I later found out that that only increases the chances of failing because if one runs out of time the computer only counts the last 60 and you can still pass. I'm really down and out because I don't want to wait 45 days to take the exam and I don't want to pay to take it again. Not to mention, I gave up my whole summer studying, lost my 6 pack, didn't hang out with friends, and turned a lot of invites down. I did not slack off at all. I got a lot of questions on how to know a machine isn't working which is bull! I also got a lot of priority, psych, and respiratory. I can't even think right now and I just needed somewhere to vent--I haven't vented to anyone but my boyfriend and my family. To make matters worst, it was raining yesterday morning and as I was driving on the highway my car did a 360! I was able to gain control and thankfully there were no cars speeding my way and the ones that came saw my situation and slowed down. Thank you Jesus for sparing my life and helping me make it to the exam. That was a good thing and then the NCLEX ruined the rest of my day :( I don't want to cry anymore but I know I will when I see "fail" :( CONGRATS to all that passed, I wish that were me....

sorry you are going through, hang in there and really try to relax. Good luck

It's not that the computer only counts the last sixty, but it looks at your ability estimate for the last sixty. The ability estimate factors in all of the scored questions starting from #1. So although it isn't recommended that you guess rapidly, your answers from early in the exam probably did help you a little. Hang in there until you get some results.

Hey there! Hang in there. I know right now no matter what anyone says, it's hard to listen and be positive. That's how I'm feeling at least.

I find my results in 2 hrs and I know I failed b/c my exam had a lot of the 'machine is malfunctioning when' and select all that apply(4-5 of those) & so forth! Try to remain positive and be strong! Hope you feel better!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement everyone, I really appreciate it. Sad butterfly I had a lot of those machine questions too. I didn't know that questions like that would come up and I don't remember being told that in my kaplan review...Sigh...I have been on the pearsonvue website a few times today and my results aren't available yet :( I started my test arount 8:45am (they let us start at that time even though we were scheduled for 8 am). Thanx again everyone.

in hope you both passed.. please don't give up.. let us know the second you hear. my prayers are with you

Sorry to hear about your NCLEX experience. What can I tell you? I've been to your situation two months ago, the only difference is that I hurried to answer up to 265 knowing that I am running out of time. Unfortunately, I didn't know that you could still pass when you run out of time. If I only knew, then I would have slowed down..........to cut my story short, I didn't pass. I cried of course, but only for good five minutes. I knew I had a chance, just need to change my strategy next time. I am scheduled to take my second one soon. It's only natural to feel down, but don't let it prevent you from going back to studying mode. What am I saying.....miracles do happen. Maybe you passed. Just wait for your official result. In the meantime, take a break. God bless you.

sorry to hear that. oh man im scared!! machine questions!!!

fingers crossed for ya!

are machine questions bad? i have never heard that there was machine questions on NCLEX.. maybe they are the expirmental questions... there's 15 expirmental questions.. maybe they are them... when i took boards i didnt have any machine questions... i still think you passed.. please keep the faith. i am sending good thoughts your way...

Hey all, I wanted to thank everyone again for their kind words and support. I DID NOT PASS NCLEX so I have to go in for my 2nd attempt. I don't know what to feel right now because I cried for 3 hrs when I walked out of the testing center. I don't know where to start but I know I will be taking a few days off to clear my mind. I did over 5000 questions and spent almost 3 months studying and long hours in the library so I didn't work all summer and couldn't help my parents financially (I am one of 7 children). I figured it would be more beneficial to focus on passing and then start working so now I lost both ways (sigh). Something told me I wasn't ready but I kept hearing that no one feels ready so my fam and friends encouraged me to go for it and I did. Everyone in my church knows I took my test (1 guess 1 person told another b/c I didn't tell) now I have to face everyone on sunday. I know my fellow classmates who passed will inquire about it and I am so ashamed that I failed because I graduated from my school's honor's college, I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau and a member of Sigma Tau Delta (I was an English minor as well). Although I am proud of my accomplishments because of my hard work, I am not bragging. I am simply demonstrating that I work really, really, really hard....now the tears are flowing so I'll stop here...thanks for reading :crying2:
