Took NCLEX today!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I Took the NCLEX today, and I am still experiencing shell shock. The computer shut down at 110, and I was not sure of most answers. The whole thing is like a blurr right now. I only had one new question, but the whole test was very difficult. Not feeling very confident right now, it will only be by the grace of God if I pass this thing. I will keep everyone posted.

I know many people who passed at that many questions. My girlfriend passed last week w/108 questions. Don't worry most of us feel horrible after taking NCLEX. Go out and do something wonderful for yourself.

i got some newbie questions about the nclex

is the nclex computerized?

and it was mentioned that the computer shut down at 110, what does it mean? (i know shut down means the computer turns off automatically)

Hi there, Wheaties--

the NCLEX is indeed computerized. It gives a minimum number of questions. If you have already demonstrated that you are probably going to be a safe nurse (e.g., answered enough of the right questions right), it will stop there. If you are in the gray area, it keeps giving you questions until it "knows" whether or not you will be safe. If you messed up enough questions that statistically you are not going to pass the thing, it quits.

That's it in a nutshell.

There has been some debate about, if you know you got the last question right, did you pass (and vice versa). The answer would be yes for obvious reasons. If you needed one more right question to demonstrate that you are a safe nurse, and you got it right, the computer stops. If you were close enough to the not-gonna-make-it-this-time line and needed one more wrong answer to prove that, then it would quit after one more wrong answer.

Sounds like probably you are early in your studies, so this isn't anything to worry about. Just focus on what you are learning today and your NCLEX will take care of itself.

Good luck! (and welcome!!!)

To anyone who does not know, I found out yesterday that I indeed did pass this exam And to all who are waiting to take it or waiting for results, I will pray for you because I know what you are going through, and it is not easy :p yours truly, new R.N.
