I failed my NCLEX...what do I do now?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I don't know how or why but I failed it. I had a gut feeling when my classmates were acting weird around me so I decided to check it myself and lo and behold. I studied with Kaplan throughout nursing school and q bank questions so I don't know what went wrong. Please don't judge me on this but I feel like this was supposed to happen... that's why even though it is heartbreaking, I'm not THAT upset. I've always had a fear of tests... I could do anything/everything...gave speeches with confidence and no problem but the test thing, I was never confident about. On the day of graduation, my teacher sent me a "statistics show you fail your nclex if you fail the readiness test" email and that' scarred me. Even a month ago, it was like hindsight bias...not negative thinking. Believe me. I was actually feeling confident and positive before going into the test. It's like my gut kept telling me, "focus on how you're going to overcome it when you don't pass the first time"....my gut kept feeling this way for months but I tried ignoring it...anyhoo,

I bought the "PN course book preparation" from Kaplan and will study from that. It said I have 45-90 days to take it but now sure how to reschedule. I feel like I need to do this soon as ai can (and no, i'm not rushing it. I'm pumped). Please help me on how to get started with all this re-scheduling... any encouraging words?

Thanks everyone!

PS: I know in my heart and in my soul that I'm going to pass and kill it the next time I take it but this hurts... I wonder what life is trying to teach me now?

You are talking about the NCLEX PN I am guessing? Well for rescheduling you should be able to go on pearson vue and sign in and there will be a reschedule tab, you can do it through there

As for you to prep for your next exam. TELL yourself that you are walking in there to PASS that test, do not let any other thought in, if it starts to creep up, shut it DOWN. Confidence and questions and you will do this!

Good luck!!!

Narrow down your weak areas, maybe try saunders nclex book? Stay focused and dont get down on yourself. Also give yourself enough time to study and review the material. HUGS!

Thank you... I appreciate it alot. I will try Saunders. I just bought the "PN course book" form kaplan...overnight shipping too.... i'm pumped. And to the teacher that said i couldn't do it... she needs to take the stick out of her **** and screw what she said. I will pass my next time. Oh! and I just contacted state and registered Pearsonvue. I have the ATT to pick a date. Does she mean I have 90 days max to take it? Or wait 90 days and have it scheduled?

Gotcha! I just got the results/review from state. I got "above/near passing" in almost all of them and got 1 or 2 "below" - "risk potential" and "pharm" were my weaknesses. I'll definitely go over it again and again...with joy! hahaha

and HUGS back! :) thank you

Sending hugs your way :hug:Continue to stay pumped! You WILL pass! You were very close to passing. Do practice questions on a daily basis. I found this helped me a lot.

: Thank you very much! I appreciate the hugs. Keep them coming...because I need it ;/ like i said, I'm not entirely heartbroken nor am i optimistic but I do have a sense of fearlessness compared to before, where I was fearful. Maybe I am "free" now of that fear that has built up inside me. Thanks for the encouragement...now, I gotta think of my test date...hmmm

Take a short break, clear your mind and hit the books with full force. And most importantly believe in yourself!! I just took my test monday and it SUCKED!! I have no idea where some of those quesitons came from. I was a good student and studied 6 or more hours per day for about 2 weeks before the test. I used a Davis book and a hand me down hurst review book. I would say what helped me the most was doing TONS (thousands) of questions.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! :heartbeat

some states you have to wait 45 days to resit and others it is 90. You will get a new ATT issued from pearsonvue and they will not allow you to book a date without new ATT and meet state requirements

I failed my first time, too. It was hard to take in, but it doesn't make you stupid or less of a person or anything! NCLEX is hard! I used kaplan in school and never really loved it. After I failed I looked for other options. I used the Hurst review and I really really liked the program. I did it online. It does cost a bit of money, but I figured I'd rather pay the money and not have to buy a third test. Good luck, keep on keepin on!

I read from another user on here before that regardless of whether you pass your first time or on your 2nd 3rd or even 4th attempt, you'll still be a nurse. Just remember that, and don't get down on yourself. You've worked hard, so relax. Maybe you weren't quite ready, or maybe you werent' in the right mindset on that specific day. Take some time off, maybe a week max and don't even look at your books. Go have fun with friends, relax and enjoy yourself. It's not going to help if you try to study when you're stressed and upset. Once you're relaxed, you'll be ready to jump back into to studying. Schedule a date, I wouldn't recommend any more than 3-ish weeks. One of my girlfriends said their teachers told them the best thing you can do is study hard for 1-2 weeks, cramming everything you can into your brain, and then you take the test the next week. The longer you spend studying, the more you'll end up forgetting.
