Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hi guys... i've finished the Lacharity book and finished the kaplan Comprehensive Exam... i did half of the book of saunder's and still not satisfy drived me crazy how overwhelming the infos were... From what i've been gathered is EXAMCRAM really worth it? anyone please let me know 7 weeks left...:banghead:

Yes examcram worth buying. very easy to understand with good information.

people are recommending it in this forum.

Right now im using it, its useful to me.

goodluck.

There's a thread just a little below this one about whether or not Exam Cram is worth it--- you may find that thread helpful!

Personally though, I think it's really helping me-- so yes, I would recommend it. But I found some questions with mistakes and I don't think the rationale are as thorough as Saunders. I've read here that it very closely resembles NCLEX questions, so I'm still chugging along with it.

thank you so much guys... really good help to me... bc been waiting for replies before i go to bookstore. BTW What EXAM CRAM did you guys used the EXAM CRAM NCLEX-RN Practice questions (REd Yellow) or the EXAM CRAM 2nd edition NCLEX-RN (Blue-Yellow)????

I got the blue/yellow one-- the one that is JUST questions. The blue/yellow book has like 1200 questions in it, and then the same 1200 questions on the accompanying CD. Don't waste your time with the questions in the book--- do the ones on the computer.. that's how the program is the most useful. You take a few pretests first, then do the adaptive tests, then finally you do kind that shut off if you've passed/failed like the real NCLEX. If you have a content review book (like Saunders).. don't get another book for content.

thanks you very very much in.the.middle... :1luvu:

i would suggest that you check the nursing section of your public library. the library will probably have the kaplan strategies (purple) book along with other nclex-rn review books (saunders). i know several libraries in my area had them.

i didn't buy exam cram to study for the nclex-rn, i checked the book out from the library, loaded the cd onto my computer and returned the book (either book, review or practice questions) contains the same material (practice questions) the next day.

if you feel you need to review content, i would suggest you get the exam cram review. if you are happy with your content knowledge, get the practice questions. the practice questions book is good to carry around if you do not have access to a pc (...while waiting at a dr's office, beauty salon, etc...).

but again, the cd contained in either book has the same information.

...save your money...get the book from your library, if it is availabe.

happy studying!

im not sure if i get the 2nd edition of exam cram. can i ask the first question of chapter 1? ill check if its the 2nd edition. thanks!

i don't know what the newest version is (2, 3, 4...), but my neighbor has edition #2. i doubt if there is much difference between the first and second edition...

example: the kaplan strategies book --- people keep telling others to get the 2009-2010 copy. it doesn't matter!!!! my girlfriend has the 2004-2005 copy of the kaplan strategies. i had the 2007-2008. the questions inside the books and on the cd are the same!!! the text (chapter titles and first few paragraphs we looked at) are also the same in both books. one book does have more "filler" pages in the front so the page numbers are off, at first. but other than that they are the same. and that's the kaplan book. people think that books change dramatically from edition to edition. they do not. it just refers to a book that has been editorially revised or updated (text/spelling errors identified by readers, production quality may have been poor, hard cover versus paperback, etc.).

here goes:

2nd edition of the practice questions book - looking at chapter 1, practice exam 1, the first few questions are/begin as follows:

1. a client with a diagonosis fo passive-agressive personality disorder is seen at the local mental health clinic...

2. the client is admitted for evaluation of aggressive behavior and diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder...

3. an important intervention in monitoring the dietary compliance of a client with bulimia is..

4. assuming that all have achieved normal cognitive and emotional development, which of the following children is at greatest risk for accidental poisoning?

5. which of the following examples represents parallel play?

6. the nurse is ready to begin an exam on a 9-month old infant.

content information is as follows - 2nd edition:

I think the EC is a good book with lots of useful resources. I was not happy with their questions. I found some of them to be at best inaccurate or dead wrong. After working with them a little I found that to get any right you just choose the most absurd answer and it will be the right one. It almost feels like they prepared the questions like: "let's make this totally non-sense question here be the right one, than we think of how we'll find a rational that fits it". I know the NCLEX is tricky but I feel like these questions don't reflect the real test. That's my impression but find out for yourself. I just have a real problems when I see a error in these things.

thanks for the infos guy... i bought the EC practice questions 2nd edition with the CD... so far the questions were very tricky that was why now i'm reading my saunders book for the content. lol

IMO. Exam Cram helps me a lot to prepare for my NCLEX but you need to have a strong content foundation before you can say EC is effective. I believe EC prepares you to master the PROCESS of the exam not the content.

I PASSED my LVN last JULY and my RN 14 SEPT. I only used :typingEXAM CRAM.
