NCC Spring 2021 NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Published

Hi Everyone, I am a Liberal Arts student at NCC right now and interested in "Change of Program" to Nursing for Spring 2021. I have almost all the Pre-reqs done with 3.7 GPA. Only thing I worry about at this moment is the TEAS Exam. I did not take the TEAS yet and due to the COVID-19, there's no any test date available in my area. Do you guys know if they would consider my application without the TEAS? Please let me know if you know anything about this situation. Thank you

Just swinging by to drop off some encouragement here ! I got in with a 75%! You got this! No harm in retaking it either! I retook mine twice!

Thanks... you’re the best! Are you in the evening program? Do you have an outline of what the schedule is like?

Yes, they have an evening program! I will be applying to the evening program as well.

awesome job on the TEAS!! They look at each individual section and you are scored “points” depending on each section’s score.

you are also awarded points based on your grade on each prereq. you have (the more you have/better grade, the more points you are awarded). You also get points for never being in a nursing program & if you are a Nassau resident.

Thanks so much!! Good luck! ??

Hey everyone...I'm not sure if I'm going insane but did NCC get rid of the ASN program? I've been searching the website and I can only find information about the dual BSN program with SUNY Empire.

My apologies! My notifications didn't come in for your comment. I am in the day program. Most students will be taking the ESC courses which include a sociology and history class before taking NUR 101. It is a requirement by ESC and NCC.

They are probably making edits to the website. You obtain your ASN first from NCC and you can sit for your NCLEX. You can then continue on to your BSN with ESC.

This info that I've gathered either from previous threads or from the nursing department. I have also included my grades for reference.

These are my grades. I will put a R next to the classes I repeated for a better grade. As you can see a good majority of my classes have been repeated because I ended up with a C/C+ or withdrew! Please do not get discouraged over a "C". My suggestion to you is to retake this class over and work you butt off to get a higher grade. Study hard for your TEAS as well! I would also highly suggest having at least 8 out of the 10 classes done. AP 1& 2 I would say is a must before applying to the program. I have seen people rejected from the program for completing too little classes despite having all A’s!

ENG 101: C+

R: ENG 102: B+

R: STATS: C

AP 1: B

AP 2: B

R: GEN PSYCH: A

R: LIFESPAN: A

R: BIOMED: B+

R: MED MICRO: B

PATHO: B

TEAS: 75%

*There are 24 seats for evening classes and 72 seats for day classes.

*Classes are 4x a week either Mon-Thurs/Tues-Fri (2 lectures & 2 labs)

*Clinicals 1x a week from 7am- 3pm

So this is the quality point chart...

A= 4.0

B+= 3.5

B= 3.0

C+=2.5

C= 2.0

When you calculate you will take the number of credits that your one class is worth and multiply that by the grade you received, which is the quality point grade that matches on the chart.

I'll use a few of my grades for an example.

AP 1 (4 credit course) My grade: B (B= 3.0 quality points)

= 4 credits x 3.0 Q.P. = 12 points

STATS (3 credit course) My grade: C (C= 2.0 quality points)

= 3 credits x 2.0 Q.P. = 6 points

BIO 131 (3 credit course) My grade: B+ (B+= 3.5 quality points)

= 3 credits x 3.5 Q.P. = 10.5 points

Keep in mind you get 10+ points for being a Nassau County Resident and 5+ points for never being in a nursing program before. I am not sure about the points for each TEAS section. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WHEN APPLYING IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE POOL OF APPLICANTS! EVERY SEMESTER BRINGS IN MANY STUDENTS WITH DIFFERENT KINDS OF GRADES AND GPA'S

does anyone have the zoom link for today's info session?

Application is complete!! Anyone else freaking out? LOL

Yes every single day! LOL

Just waiting on a few things to finish my application!

Question- I printed out my TEAS score report but it only has my overall score instead of the breakdown (ex: Math 90, English 90 etc). Does that matter?

ETA: Found my own answer directly on the nursing website *facepalm*

Does anyone know if we should send in recommendation letters or not?
