Navy NCP FY2015 Applicants

Published

Hello all! I have been avidly following previous topics about the NCP program and I wanted to start one for those of us who have recently submitted a kit for the NCP program for FY2015. I'm in the Chicago area and my kit is currently being combed over by a processor then will be shipped out for the boards- which aren't convening until Novemeber (according to my recruiter), since they wanted to have more applicants. Hopefully this will be an area to calm nerves and answer questions. Good luck to all who apply, or are thinking of applying!

I am in Orlando, FL my recruiter is in Mobile, AL but I was able to sign here locally

I'm sure this is info is redundant for you guys, but I emailed my recruiter asking if anything was heard on when I could sign and become official, and he said I was good to go and they are just waiting on my FINSEL documents

What are FNSEL documents? Does "good to go" mean you were final select, or you've just sent in all your documents (letter of good standing, last semesters grades) to prepare for signing?

I'm guessing it stands for final selection documents, and i guess I don't know what good to go meant. I took it as good to go for the program cause he also said my pay may be retroactive

Would anyone be willing to help me answer these questions? I've read what I can and am still a bit confused!

I've been in contact with a few nurse's here on the military base where I live. Waiting for their responses, so in the mean time...can anyone offer some insight, please

I'm getting ready to enter in to a 1 year Accelerated BSN program (already have a B.S). My goal is to get that year paid for. I realize that 1 year of school requires 4 years active duty. That's fine. I'm currently a mil spouse, ready to join.

How do I go about getting the Navy to pay for this program?

When do I have to sign?

What's this sign on bonus?

When does the monthly stipend begin?

One of the docs here told me to not believe a thing any recruiter says and to get everything in writing. I'm completely new to this side of things so I have tons of questions.

Eventually I want to be a Psychiatric NP. Am I better off to go to school for that right after I obtain my BSN? I realize I'll have to give a few more years back to the Navy. Getting in contact with a healthcare recruiter has proven to be painful.

A one year BSN?! Wow.. My nursing school itself is 5 semesters or 2.5 years, I can't imagine learning everything In my program in a year, but good luck haha... Anyways google search many NCP, that will answer a lot of the program questions... Contacting a healthcare recruiter is also imperative and they will be able to give you a lot more info.. But boards usually happen october-december time and you will sign maybe that march-may if your accepted

I'm in an accelerated program myself. I started the application process back in March. It took until August or so to get it all done. Then the boards weren't until October then they were pushed to Novemeber. If you're looking to try to get picked for NCP just to pay for the program, you probably won't get the money in time, if you were to get picked. It's much more than just a "sign up and then get paid" type of deal. Also, they don't pay your tuition. You get a monthly stipend and a signing bonus. It is not enough to pay for a year of school. You might be better off trying for scholarships through your school

Thanks for the info TraumaRnHopeful! What do the boards consist of? I live in overseas right now on a mil base and there are not healthcare recruiters so I'm trying to do everything over the phone. So then, the sign on bonus you get, is it the same for everyone? I could use that to pay back some of my loans for sure. Also, if I'm already in school by the time I get accepted to NCP, what good is the stipend? I wouldn't get that if I finished the program and then went NCP right?

I would contact the medical recruiter in your HOR. Applicants have nothing to do with the boards themselvse. The paperwork before hand in order to GET to the boards takes alot. There is a TON of paperwork that has to be formatted a certain way, then there's a physical (just checking to make sure you are in good health, not a fitness test) then youhave to interview with 2-3 Navy nurses who write a recommendation for you. You need other letters of recommendation from professors, all your transcripts- alot. And the stipend is the same for everyone- 5k when you sign, then another 5k 6 months later, and 1k every month. If you are already in school by the time you start getting paid, then you only get paid for however long you are in school. But if you are starting one soon, then you will be done before you even sign, assuming you got selected. (Ex: school starts in April, boards arent until Oct, decisons are made by Dec, you can sign anywhere between Jan and May but that would be past your year mark and graduation in April- get it?) If you are only in it for the money, in your situation, it doesn't seem worth it. If you want to be a Navy nurse, try direct assecion. That means you are already a nurse and have been working as one and you go in to the Navy that way. The application process is the same and the boards are at the same time. Timewise, you may not even be eligible for NCP since you graduation date seems to be sometime in mid 2015. But again, I would contact the medical recruiter in your HOR for official info. This is all just from what I have gathered while going through this process

thanks, that is very helpful!

Hey everybody, I've been following this thread for months now. I applied for the NCP 2015 as well, made it to both boards and was accepted at the November boards. I found out I was selected middle of December. I was wondering if anyone has gotten any word yet. I keep bothering my recruiter but he's heard nothing so far. Anyone else just sort of lost like I am?

Also it's been really great to follow along with you all!

Still haven't heard anything yet! The Navy's budget for fiscal year 2015 has been decided, so hopefully we won't be so lost soon!
