  1. Great thanks so much! I have been researching the area, so I think I have a decent idea about that. My main questions are about the hospital... 1. Do you know what the new grad program (residency) consists of? 2. What can you tell me about their ED? Is it mostly staffed by military nurses? High acuity? Busy? Patient population? I am a prior Corpsman with ED experience at NAVHOSP Jacksonville, FL, so if you're familiar with that ED, could you compare the two? 3. I am very interested in doing emergency medicine and am really hoping to get there asap. Do you see new grads ever placed there?
  2. Were you ever attached to WRNNMC or familiar with the hospital at all? I'm a new nurse reporting there in a few months and very interested in emergency medicine
  3. aricaroni, what did you learn from touring Walter Reed? Would you say there was mainly Navy personal? Also, did you meet the director of nursing? And if so, was he/she Navy or Army? I also am NCP and heading to Bethesda after graduation
  4. Hello, I am also graduating with my BSN this December. I was just browsing on here and your post caught my eye. I probably am not the person you are looking for information from, but my leadership lecturer (who had a PhD) actually just spoke to us about grad school and I thought I'd share. He told us that we should go to a grad school that has the best possible reputation (nationally) that you have the means to attend because yes, where you went to grad school will carry a lot of weight and will follow you forever. If you don't have the means to move out of state, try to go to the top rated grad school in your area. Looking at the US news reports will give you national rankings of nursing grad schools.
  5. Awesome thank you! Are all the collaterals pretty much equal as far as how competitive they make you for promotion? And other than collaterals and taking some classes, is there anything else I should be doing to stand out?
  6. msive22, Hello, great post! It was very informative and i'm certain a lot will benefit. I'm not a single parent, but I will be entering the Navy Nurse Corps in Feb/Mar of this year and will be going to Bethesda as well. I read you received a call from the internship director while you were in ODS correct? I REALLY want to be in the ED, and was told I should write a letter to the DNS stating that and my experience, but if we will get to speak with an internship director maybe thats not necessary? Thank you so much, and any other info about the command or bethesda area will be great!
  7. The process will take a few months and the boards for this year (if there are any) will take place in a few months so you should talk with a recruiter asap. He or she could also answer any other questions you have about the process and or Navy Nursing
  8. How do you know the dates for ODS? I graduate this December and would love to know some dates so I can see when I should shoot to take the NCLEX.. And I tried searching for your Facebook page but couldn't find it..
  9. So the OH address is able to receive emails again?
  10. After calling the number on our selection letter I was told that they (people in bethesda) didn't have my paperwork and that I should tell my office to maybe resend it. So after notifying my processor she calls them and tells me a few days later that they do have my record and that I should see my pay sometime this week... I guess thats good news but I still havent received any emails and I know we need to send our transcript from this last semester. Are you supposed to do this through the OH email address? And is it up and working again? Thank you! And thats great you guys are getting your stipends!
  11. Yes absolutely IDC's are comparable to PA's. I never worked very closely with an IDC during my time as a Corpsman, but it sounded like a nice job!
  12. As a corpsman about graduate from a BSN program I can say that corpsman should not be able to test for an RN license.. The knowledge that you need to have as an RN is far more than is taught in corpsman school.. Depending on where you are, corpsman are very similar to MA's and EMT's
  13. Great… There was a phone number in our NCP acceptance letter, I was going to call that tomorrow and see if I can get in touch with someone cause yea I didn't have any luck with the OH email.. Did you get any payments yet?
  14. Was your email from the "OH" email address? My processor told me to contact them leading me to believe my stuff was sent and it is an issue on their end
