NAU PreReqs online through Rio Salado- Help! :)

Published

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all well.

Has anyone taken FON241, HCR240, Statistics, Mat142, PSY240 or any of the "AHI" and "CU" credits that you need for the NAU CEP program online at Rio Salado recently?

Was there a lot of essays? a lot of reading? were your midterm and finals at the school or online? how were the exams? I have had mixed reviews on all of these classes and of course Rio doesn't list their professors on the classes I have checked so I cant look them up on ratemyprofessor.com

I am trying to finish up my classes online through their 8 week sessions ( and possibly their 5 week summer session that starts July 2nd) since I took last semester off for the birth of my child, but I work full time and like I said, I have a 5 month old son so any advice that you can give me so that I don't overload myself and get low grades would be so helpful!

Thanks so much :)

are there any other maricopa colleges that offer these classes online?? i took bio 205 at rio, i hated it! made it out with an 88 = b, i was so mad!!! the midterms and finals were very ambiguous, no study guide, had to know everything. i have not taken the classes you are speaking of but most of the biology courses at rio are laid out all the same from what i have seen and heard. def see what others say but rio is not the easiest option for sure.

best of luck!!!

Cin, I had a similar experience at Rio with BIO 205. I also took PSY 240 the same semester, and got a B in that one, too, though an A would have been feasible had I paid more attention to deadlines. PSY 240 was pretty straightforward; all I remember were written assignments that needed to be turned in. How important is it that you finish these courses in 8 weeks? IMHO, you will find them to be more manageable if they're not so condensed, especially Micro.

I have also been an online student with a new baby. Give yourself extra time to finish everything, because just when it's time to turn things in, or do an online quiz, your baby will need you. Good luck!

Mat142 midterm and final in person, no essay questions just MyMathLab quizzes.

Psy240 lots of essays and papers. Did not have an in-person midterm or final, but that was a while ago.

FON241 had tons of essays and in person final.

HCR240 lots of essay questions and in person midterm and final. ( However, I took this one through Gateway online lots of essay questions, module quizzes on the evolve website, the midterm and final were questions from the quizzes mostly and were taken closed book at home via a ustream program that you have to have a camera on your home computer to take.) But you didn't have to go into the testing center.

Sorry haven't had Stats yet.

thanks everyone!! i am definitely not taking bio205 online because i need the classroom aspect for lab classes otherwise i don't do very well. good to know about the in person finals on a few of those classes. did any of you take classes for the ahi and cu credits? if sp, which ones did you take? and would you recommend them?

If you want my advice (well you asked for it I suppose), DO NOT take HCR240 online...The class is quite involved (difficult) and you really need lecture to go along with the reading...I took the online option at SCC and it involved a lot of studying, I feel it would have been so much easier to take in person...I pulled an A, but just barely...Good luck...

Hey guys I will be taking PSY 240 at Rio in a week, and I wanted to see how diffifcult the class is, I noticed there is a lot of essays and quizzes? The professors name is ---------------------- and I can't even find her on rate my professor. I got accepted to nursing school but this is my last class that I need to take.

I really appreciate if you guys can give me some feedback.

I took this course last summer from them. It was fairly simple. I only spent about 2 hours a week between the weekly quiz's and essays. I received a 98% in it without much needing to be done. I enjoyed the material so the papers were very stress free to write.

Thank you so much for ur feedback. How was the final and midterm, did you buy the book?

I didn't purchase the book to begin with but after a couple weeks I realized the class was way easier with the book. Midterm and final were multiple choice all taken online with open book so super simple. I believe I received 98% of my midterm and 100% on the final

I just added the course, and there is so much essays..I was shocked:bored:. Did you have the same amount of work? I really have to pass this course Im worried If I do bad in the papers because there is so many and I start nursing school in may.

I have taken the following 4 classes at Rio Salado via online. between 2013-2014

FON241 (Nutrition), PSY 230 (Statistics), Humanities (Popular Jazz) Humanities (World Music) Humanities (Contemporary Cinema)

The classes really vary in how much reading and work was required. FON midterm/final were challenging for me and done off site/proctored, but in the end I received an A in the class. I truly read the entire book though, as I wanted to understand it. This A was not easy. I would NOT recommend this class as an 8 week option, unless its your only class. I tried the 8 week version for 2 weeks and then switched it to the longer schedule. Even then, I'd say set yourself up for success and go with the longer schedule.

Rio's Humanities classes were a breeze for me and I felt that the abbreviated 8 week schedule, is very doable, providing you have the time to double up on the studying. I studied/read/did homework about 9 hours a week per class. Average. All tests were online - no proctored.

Statistics - I am still in the middle of this class....so the jury is out. I am finding that this class is requiring A LOT of my time. Perhaps because the subject is just hard for me. I don't believe there are any proctored tests with this class...these are all online. Ask me in 2 months, and I can give a more clear opinion.

I do feel like Rio Salado rates high on the amount of essays and written portions of class work. (in my experience).

All in all - I say these online classes are for those who are motivated and can succeed in being self taught. The benefit is that you can do your work at midnight or noon....it fits into your daily schedules.

Good luck to anyone taking Rio Salado online classes.
