National University SD Cohort 58 - Apr 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello to everyone that is applying for Cohort 58 ABSN program at the San Diego location for National University. This is going to be my first time to apply. Getting more nervous as the October Application date approaches. I feel confident in my scores for the TEAS test and my current GPA from the core sciences required, but this essay is starting to make my stomach spin. I've met with a writing advisor at Spectrum Writing Center, so I feel prepared in what to expect to be successful in writing this proctored essay, but will it be enough?

I've spoken with one other that has applied to Cohort 58 as well. Wondering if there is anyone else out there on this same journey feeling the same way I am.

I am excited to hear from anyone attempting to apply for this Cohort!

For those who went today... How was it? How do you guys feel now?

I felt the essay went well. I noticed that everyone I spoke with had a prompt that has been communicated from the writing center advisors, or seen on these boards. If you can be ready for those then you will be ready for sure. Didn't hear any other curveball prompts as I spoke to others.

Beginning the essay had me worried that I would not have enough information to flow out of my brain in time. It was the total opposite. Within 25 minutes I had typed past the second page for my 4th paragraph and had to wrap up my answering of the prompt. The last half of the hour was cutting back the essay and editing to the best of my ability.

Awesome!!! Did you retake the teas too?

I ended up with the same exact grade of an 86. My head wasn't in it anyways. I didn't focus on anything but being able to write that essay. It was so cold in that room, so bring a jacket.

In reference to the post with the list of 6 essay topics:

Thanks so much for posting this! I put #s 1-6 in a hat and wrote out each of these essays randomly. I just found this forum on Sunday and would not have been as prepared for my essay on Tuesday if it wasn't for your information. I got the interpersonal prompt. It was not specific to the workplace though I was still able to use the same essay topic I practiced. I feel confident in the essay I wrote. Thanks a bunch!

Hi,

I also applied to Cohort 58. Does anyone know how many students are accepted into the program and how many are placed on the wait list?

Thank you

Hi,

How many alternate spots do they have available for each cohort ?

Only 40 students are accepted into the program and there are only 10 alternate spots.

Hello everyone!

Wish you all the best! I ended up pulling my application the day before my test date because I was not 100% about going in with my teas score and about the essay. I felt like i needed more time to study that way i am not doubting if i could get in or not, plus this would have been my second time applying and did not want to risk having to apply for the third time. I took a month class with Adkins Academy and met other people who were also applying for National and for the amount I paid for him to tutor and guarantee a high score I did not like the way he taught nor did I get the high score he said I could get. But, good luck to everyone and maybe ill hear from some of you in the next cohort if you are an alternate.

Too bad you couldn't go forward with this application period for Cohort 58. I don't blame you for not wanting to waste your second try at National University. I by-passed Cohort 57 myself and I don't regret it at all. Have a friend that did make it. Hopefully I can follow his lead and glide right into Cohort 58. Though I had to wait 3 more months to try the essay, it gave me time to focus on only that. If I don't make it this time katelynn95, then you may see me next go around for my second try.

Anybody else have their essay/TEAS today? How do you feel now that it is done?

I did the TEAS and the essay today and got a 95.3 on the test. Both went well. Essay portion is hit or miss i think. I hope it's the former. What poetic bs can one really sum up in one hour? Good luck and may the deserving people get in the program.

Cheers!

Very nice TEAS. You gave yourself a great shot for this cohort. It is very subjective in how they grade the essay. Are they grading for a well-constructed essay and it answers the prompt given, or are they grading on how it makes them feel about us as a future nursing student? Or a mix of both?

I guess we will find out late December, but most likely early January.
