National University SD Cohort 58 - Apr 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello to everyone that is applying for Cohort 58 ABSN program at the San Diego location for National University. This is going to be my first time to apply. Getting more nervous as the October Application date approaches. I feel confident in my scores for the TEAS test and my current GPA from the core sciences required, but this essay is starting to make my stomach spin. I've met with a writing advisor at Spectrum Writing Center, so I feel prepared in what to expect to be successful in writing this proctored essay, but will it be enough?

I've spoken with one other that has applied to Cohort 58 as well. Wondering if there is anyone else out there on this same journey feeling the same way I am.

I am excited to hear from anyone attempting to apply for this Cohort!

Specializes in Hospice.
I dont mean to be rude at all but how is that far that you are in a post bachelor without a bachelor degree?

I have a bachelor degree in Business Management as well as my LVN.

Then that's totally fair!

I HATE computerized test. I took my TEAS in L.A. because it is written and you get an actual calculator in your hand to punch away at. I was able to write all over the test, scribble, underline, doodle. I finished all the sections but reading with at least 15 min to spare. I think I had 5 min left over in reading. This was my first attempt and I found it MUCH easier than the ATI study guide info (which has lots of errors). The ATI computerized practice exams were very helpful though. I ended up making a 90.7 and there is NO way I would have made that if taken on the computer. I am sure this info is a bit late, but perhaps it will help others in future cohorts.

I made a trip to Rancho Bernardo campus today to check out where to park and which room the essay and testing site is. Seemed simple enough to find the room. There was a tour with the most recent cohort 57 walking through with a guide showing them the campus. I thought to myself that this is where I plan on being in 3 months doing that same tour.

I tried to get more information about how many offical applicants there are, but was unable to get a final tally because of the LVN - BSN cohort being cancelled. She did mention most of the time that LVN TEAS scores average out lower compared to the larger applicant pool of ABSN cohorts. Just wanted to say this for some to understand that it most likely will not change the acceptance rate much

with required points. It makes it more difficult for the LVN prospects.

Good luck everyone! One week left until essay and testing.

Thank you for all the advise and tips. If someone gets a chance, can you clear some things up for me?

I have an appointment with the writing center tomorrow, but have been wondering about this for days. Driving me nuts.

In the outline that is circulating that lays out the format for the essay it says "citation #1, #2, etc.... This is the outline that past students said they got from the writing center in regards to what is expected on the essay.

Do they expect us to cite sources? OR does that just mean refer back to one of the points from our thesis?

Did you cite sources?

Do we have access to the internet or just Word?

Did you have citations memorized?

Hope this question makes sense.

If so, do we need a reference page?

Do we need a title page?

I thought an essay and a research paper were two different things, but that essay outline has me questioning everything. Ha!

I feel like I am making this much more difficult than it needs to be.

Thank you!

When i took my essay a couple months ago I didn't need to cite any sources. I just made sure I kept to the prompt of the essay. You also don't need a title page. You'll get 60 mins to write an essay of 5 paragraphs one-two pages long. Hope this helps! Good luck

Is anyone else absolutely freaking out?

Is anyone else absolutely freaking out?

You are not the only one. I had a dream I went into the essay on Tuesday and had my thoughts blank out on me. This has given me anxiety while I am awake.

I have told myself to really think for a minute or two before starting to type to really process how I am going to answer this prompt question while keeping within the format required.

No Oliver, you are not the only one. I'm not a nervous person in general, but I am nervous for this.

I am currently awake at 3am because I had a nightmare I had my essay on paper in pencil and unedited!!! Then I had 10 minutes to get to RB AND FORGOT MY ID.....

Lol, I am in the same boat as all of you! I am freaking out!! I've been booking appointments with the writing center almost every day. I started freaking out even more because the writing tutor told me she had a student, a couple moths ago, who got a NEW prompt that they had never given out before. Its nerve-wrecking!

do you know what that prompt was hahaha!!

No, I asked but it was a few months ago and she couldn't remember. She did say that it was a hard one!!
