National University San Diego

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Mine kids are 9,7, and 2--so I know what you mean when you say they keep you busy! I guess we are in the same boat with juggling school and little ones. I'm sure we can do it though!

I've also heard that National is a great program, so I was surprised to hear some of the negative comments about it. But I definitely want honest feedback, so it is good to know what to watch out for and what to be aware of. I'm really looking forward to starting the program and I agree that the job market should be looking up by the time we graduate. Hopefully the timing will be just right for RN jobs. See ya soon! :)

Congratulations on your acceptances! I also got accepted for the October cohort at NU, and am very excited to start. I read your previous posts and noticed you are moms. I too am a mother. I have two kids (3 and 1) and no idea about childcare yet.

I am sure time will fly by and we will be in class soon. I hope to stay in touch with you guys until then, and get to know you all!

Congratulation to all of you starting in October!!! Last month was the longest month ever!!! I have read all 120 something pages of this thread while waiting to come back to San Diego and check my mailbox. I was very happy to know I got accepted. It was scaring to find out that there were almost 200 applicants for this cohort.

Anyway, thank you all for the information and feedback about the program. NU is definitely a good school, but let's keep in mind that the students are the ones who build most of the school's reputation!

Congratulations on being accepted for October--I look forward to meeting you!! I didn't realize that there were 200 applicants for this cohort--I guess the competition is getting tougher with each cohort. I'm so glad we made it!

On your acceptance letter is the name of someone you can email for an immunization packet early. You won't get your orientation paperwork until about a month or so before your orientation. I just got mine yesterday and my orientation is June 4th for the July start. If there is not a name on your letter, PM me and I'll email you the packet so you can get started :D

Does the packet include information on getting CPR certified or is that something I should be working on now? Thanks so much for the info--I just want to make sure I get everything done in time!

No prob! It says you need your CPR card. Get your BLS before hand. They don't give anymore info. I signed up for a class w/Palomar Hospital for $50. It's AHA certified and they certify you for 2 years. If you have any specific info contact the nursing person on your acceptance letter. She'll be able to give you more info. I think my post will get deleted if I give names.:o

Hello everyone!!

I have terrific news! The head of the department sent us an email today regarding externships at NU. The externship as some of you may know is a course. She needs to write the course, send it to the NU approval committee, then submit it to BRN for approval! She believes that this will happen by this summer!! So much for us being the only one's without an externship!!! Hooray!!!

I signed up for the BLS for healthcare providers through palomar (through the pph website). You just need to get the card I believe. I don't think you need the online test. The school just asks for a copy of your card. My class is on May 28th so I'll let you know what I get.

You wont have to "accept" until you get the invite to the orientation. Then they ask you to accept or decline via email when they send out the info for orientation. No prob, keep asking if you have questions!

It's been a while since I've logged in :) I was originally accepted to the January 2010 cohort but I changed my schedule to start the October 2010 cohort because I just had my first baby boy in March :)) I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you... and meeting you.

I was reading that some of you have children... I am very concerned about attending Nursing school and having a newborn... any thoughts or advice? I am lucky that my mom lives with my husband and I. So she will be my super helper :) ... but I'm still worried how I will handle everything... baby.. school... and work.

Do not worry, you can do it!!! I have no family in San Diego, and went through all the prerequisite classes with two babies (I actually had my last baby right after a class ended, and I still got an A). I know nursing school will be harder, and we won't be able to give our babies much attention. But, it will be worth once we are done. All we do is for our families, right? So, do not feel guilty. These 22 months will fly by, and you will be having quality time with your baby again!

I am looking forward to meeting you and enjoying the time in nursing school!

Hi everyone! Thanks to all those who were helping me regarding the Biomedical Stats class. I actually (and finally) got a hold of someone regarding the class, and they did, in fact, state that this class is specific to the program.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this class transfers to other schools. If I took this class at National (online... which I hope they offer it online) would I be able to use it to apply to state and community colleges?
