Hello Katiekoll, good to hear from you! I heard about Azusa from a friend of mine also (who never attended it though). We were both taking the prerequisite courses for National University's program. She told me about APU when she knew I have a BA. I applied to Azusa when I was waiting to hear from National. I got accepted to National first, and had everything ready to start this October. Then I received the acceptance letter from Azusa, and I became very excited! Some of the reasons I've chosen APU are the combined BSN/Master's degree, the length of the program, and the distance from my house. About the research class, I have taken one already (it is from my previous Bachelor's). I remember at my interview, I was told that the research class was going to be required from Spring/2011 cohort. It has to do with it being a graduate program. And how is your lifestyle now? I have two small children and am very worried about going through nursing school with them

Hello katiekoll, I've also been accepted for Spring 2011. It has been difficult to find information and students from APU's EENAP program. Are you going to the San Diego campus? How do you feel about the program? What made you decide to attend APU? I look forward to hearing from you!

Hello everyone of Cohort 24! I have exchanged posts with a few of you, and was looking forward to meeting you all soon. However, just last week I was accepted to APU's nursing program for next Spring. Well, there are three main factors that are making me decide to attend Azusa. First, it is a 15-month program (but very intense), and even though it starts in January, I will still graduate earlier than if I go to NU; second, it is in Mission Valley (I live in Chula Vista); and third, it is over 5 thousand dollars LESS expensive than National University. Just in case you guys do not find a "Elisbrasilia" (Brazilian girl) in your class, you will know what happened. Arhhh... And I have done everything already for Orientation. Plus going through test, essay, waiting, anxiety was not fun! But, thanks, everyone, ExPharmaGirl, for all the advice, and comments. I really appreciated them! National University is a great school. I enjoyed the time I spent there and the friends I made. But, independent of what school we go, it is our own responsibility the type of professional we will be, right? Wishing the best to all of you, and God bless, Elisbrasilia

You are right, ExPharmaGirl! Nursing programs are severely impacted, and we are fortunate for being in one :) I hope meeting you sometime during Nursing school!

Thanks for replying so quick! I took all the prerequisite classes at National, and I truly liked the one-course-per-month format. I like APU's program because you can continue your education towards a Master's as soon as you get your BSN. And, because APU is a traditional type of school, the programs are ranked nationwide (and they actually have good ranks). But, I also like how NU's program sounds. I just do not have any reference. This thread is helpful, but it is basically good and bad opinions from part of the students. I was wondering if it even matters where you graduate from.

Hey ExPharmaGirl! How do you like nursing school so far? I know it is too early to ask you that. I am just curious to know about your first impression. I start the program in October, but I am also considering Azusa. I am actually very undecided between National and APU. Perhaps you could give me some advice :)
  7. Hey, anaf! I am in Rancho Del Rey, Chula Vista (long ways south!). My hubby's base is in Coronado, so we figured it would be more convenient living in the South County. Good luck with your appointment at National. And, keep me updated!
  8. My husband is. There is a program for military spouses, which was just now cut due to California financial crisis. It helped with 6,000 total for tuition. Anyway, it is almost nothing comparing to how much the whole thing is going to cost us I just found out about a scholarship for nursing students. It looks like anyone in a nursing program can apply. It pays for tuition, fees, books, and even some other extra costs. It is actually an exchange for a minimum 2 year full time service commitment at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. It is something to be checking on in the future. You can find out more about it from the Health Resources and Services Administration website. I also found out about a financial aid for disadvantaged students. You have to go to the school office to apply for it. Your counselor may guide you through. I will call mine to have more details. I will update my search as I go on. And, I am sure you can find out good resources from your counselor (well... let's pray you will have a great person to help you :redbeathe) And, hey, if the person is not helpful, tell them you want to see somebody else. The first time I went to National University for some other program, the person who attended me was so lost, did not help whatsoever! I came back months later to know about nursing school, and met a great counselor (my current counselor). My Brazilian friend asked to change counselors, because she did not like the first one. So, do not be satisfied with anybody. Look for someone who will guide you through all the process, and knowledgeable about the nursing program!!!
  9. Have a great weekend!
  10. Up to now I have used money from the military. But, it is almost gone! I am trying to figure out what financial aid or grants/scholarships I can apply for. I will keep you updated on that. Please, ask how many questions you want. I will help you as much as I can :)
  11. Yeah, there is one university that accepts their credits. However, the waiting is worth when you know several doors will be opened to you! I started classes at National November/2008, and just now Oct/2010 I will start nursing school (two years later). Time flies by when you are studying. I am also married, and with kids! I have been enjoying my free time, because I know it will be over when school starts, and then job hunting. I asked if you have a Bachelor's because there are other options for those who have it already. If you opt National, you will have some other classes to take besides the science classes before starting nursing school. So, do not worry, you will be busy!
  12. Ok, I will write it again! No problems! I was saying that National University's point system only counts the GPA of the sciences and statistics classes (7 classes total), TEAS and proctored essay scores. If you read through National University San Diego forum, you will find good information on several topics. By the way, do you have a Bachelor's already? Just be careful with Kaplan college! I heard their credits are not transferable. And there is another Brazilian, a friend of mine, going to National. She is going to finish Micro (her last prerequisite) next month, and apply for nursing school in August for April Cohort. If you need any help with anything, please let me know! It's a pleasure meeting you too!
  13. Neither did I! Did you get my last reply?
  14. Hi, I am from Brazil too! I start nursing school in Oct/2010. What about you? Are you in San Diego? What hospital/school?

I also would like to ask those in the program some questions: 1. How do you like the program? 2. If you could decide between other programs, would you still go to NU? 3. How much do you recommend it? Thank you very much!

Happy Mother's Day to you too, Bubbles! The nursing department replied my email. They said as long as the class is for healthcare providers (CPR/AED), the card is issued by American Heart Association, and it is not an online course, we should be fine :) I will definitely scheduled my class with StarCPR. I saw on their website the card they issue, and it is from AHA. That is great you will have a lot done now! Changing name on all documents sounds overwhelming! And, you should be able to work some while in nursing school. You are very lucky for having your mom around, and only ONE baby!!!! I am sure you don't know it Have a great weekend!
