There were six of us: Oldest brother Eddy was a crane operator but also got his EMT and worked as a volunteer. Oldest sister Sharn was a CNA. Middle sister Pecos Su worked in clerical jobs. Little sister Cat got her CNA and worked in DD for 30 years as trainer. Little Bro worked as a hospital security guard. And I was a nurse.

Five out of the six of us had some connection to the caregiving field.

How 'bout your sibs?

My grandmother was a nurse, aunt is a nurse. Though, and my hubby's mom was a nurse.

Oh contre mon feline frere! Caregiving is serving others as in mental health stuff and educators! Your sibs certainly do served others.

It's cool that you have two nurses in your family too, CalicoKitty!

My Mom worked and retired as a dietitian at St. Anomaly's Hospital for over 20 years. She also was an dispatcher for the volunteer fire department in the days before cell phones and pagers. After she retired, Mom worked as a secretary for her church.

Dad was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years. He was incredible! He worked as a welder at a rock quarry 12 hour shifts, 5 days during the week, 8 hours on Saturday, then pulled fire duty two Saturday nights a month. Dad also worked his small farm, did automotive and multitude other fixes- generally free of charge- for just about anybody who asked him to do so. He had an easy-going personality and was a dang good dad.

Dad was one hard worker. Heck, I do some grocery shopping and a little laundry and feel like I deserve a nap!

My grandmother got a bachelor's degree in nursing.. She worked in psych nursing, in one of the state mental hospitals. She eventually went back to school for psychology and worked as a school psychologist in a school system.

My aunt is an LPN. She worked in dialysis and hated it, now works in LTC.

Specializes in Dialysis.

I'm the oldest. My oldest sister is a dental hygienist, my youngest is a radiologist, so the 3 of us have healthcare lines of work. My 3 brothers, who are a little younger than us ladies: oldest is a lawyer, middle is a CPA, youngest works in a factory as a forklift driver

I'm the oldest of 4 my brother works as cook at a retirement home for retired nuns. One younger sister works as A CNA and activities at an Assisted Living memory care  The youngest now work with children. But worked as a CNA for years.

Specializes in retired LTC.

Younger sister = RN

Baby sister looked at our work requirements and said "NO WAY". Went into  comp sci and financial firms and did very well.

Specializes in Oncology, ID, Hepatology, Occy Health.

One older sister was what's called an ODA in the UK (Operating Department Assistant). I'm not sure this exists anywhere else - a two year training leading to a state qualification allowing you to be a general assistant in the OR and doing some duties that might also be done by an OR nurse, although the ODA is not a nurse and is only qualified to work in the OR and not in other departments. After that she trained to be a social worker so yes, both in health and social care which we didn't inherit from our parents (fetler father and cashier mother).

Specializes in Rehab/Nurse Manager.

No sibs here.  My parents decided at an early age that I added more than enough problems...ahem, entertainment to the household...that they didn't see the need for any more little ones.
