Nassau Community College

U.S.A. New York

Hi, all,

I applied to Nassau Community College today for the Spring 2010 semester. I understand that the Spring class is much smaller than the Fall semester. Would anyone mind sharing -- I applied with a 3.75 and all pre-reqs done. Anyone out there get in to the January class in the past with a comparable GPA? I understand that it's all according to the pool of GPA's they receive - 4.0's first, but I'm looking for a glimmer of hope.

Thanks!

Hey! Congrats for also getting in!

My interview is on the 25th. I think I am going to wear a short sleeve white button down shirt and a pair of black pants with flat shoes. I know some people wear jeans but I want to give a good impression considering it is an interview

I'm about 90% positive I'm doing nassau program but I'm deciding between that program and NYIT's nursing program. I already have a bachelor's degree (field other than nursing) and I don't want to do an accelerated program because I just went through 4 years of torture in a just below ivy school ... so I'm wondering if anyone has a opinion as to whether or not i should do nassau's program or 2 year's through NYIT's?

Congratulations to you as well, SPB! I applied to NYIT as well, but decided to cross it off my list for a number of reasons - the biggest being the program's lack of accreditation by the NLNAC or the CCNE. I contacted an administrator at the school to question their standing, and was told that "It's a relatively new program, and obtaining accreditation takes time - and is currently pending". There have been few threads on this site about this issue which you look into and decide for yourself. You should also check the stats for the school to help you make up your mind.

Nassau's reputation and stats are top-notch, and the cost is beyond a bargain! I was accepted to Molloy's Dual Degree program as well, but plan on attending Nassau (if my interview goes well, that is!). Molloy is an excellent school, and I could have completed a BSN in just one additional semester....but the Nassau program suits my lifestyle much better for now - as well as my pocketbook!

Is NYIT a Bachelors in Nursing or Assoicate ? My daughter was going to look into that school too.....

Still have to keep all "plans" open untill the final acceptance to hear the words "Your in" Molloy is also on the list.....waiting for them to review her status their too.

She is so happy about NCC......

Just from my experince in the "real world"......look the part of a proffessional for any interview. NO JEANS

Just in case u guys are wondering....I am a nurse too! LPN for 16 years....

Congrats to the bunch of you who made it in! Suzi, hope you get your letter today~ Fingers crossed for you.

SBP- thanks for the advice. Naturally, they won't post professor until last minute, and changing is almost impossible. I don't start until July 7, so I will go through the chapters between semesters. Will have a bit over a month to prepare. :)

And thank you .. all of you.. reading these posts has given me more usefull information than any I received from the school itself. All the best to you ! ( and with any luck - I'll be right be hind you in January. )

NYIT (Old Westbury) is a Bachelors program, and the Dual Degree program at Molloy is for people who already have a Bachelors in another field, yet want to pursue a Nursing Degree. You graduate with a BSN as well as several credits towards an MSN, which is terrific. If I was not a divorced Mom of 2 teenagers and had unlimited funds, that definitely would have been the route I would have chosen. The ASN program at Nassau suits my life perfectly for now, and provides an excellent education as well. I'm so relieved I got in. I do plan to continue on for a Bachelors & Masters, and am comfortable knowing that once I'm licensed, a lot more program options will be available to me.

Hello Ladies...

No letter today :( This is getting ridiculous!

Suzi

Call the school....things get lost in the mail.......CALL TODAY!

GOOD lUCK!

I just called. They wouldn't tell me anything over the phone. I have to call on Thursday and they will re-mail. ugh.. I'm starting to get a bad feeling :(

That does not seem fair...Can you go to the school...Nursing Dept and have someone help you.

I hope you got the name of the person on the phone....who said they were re-mailing your letter

Hi All! I went to the Nursing Info Session today and found out a few things I didn't see on here before. First, Suzi - If you didn't get a "rejection" letter you are not out of picture. They said that after the first batch of acceptance letters goes out, they get people who have decided on a different school, or changed thier minds etc and then they go down the list and send more acceptance letters. A girl in my english class alread recieved her rejection letter - so on that note- no news is good news at this point. Keeping my fingers crosse for you.

Also- they told me that I can only apply to Day or Night program. I hoped to apply for both thinking my odds would go up due to more flexibilty - but now I have to choose one. Have to figure out which one has the better odds.

Lastly - does anyone know about financial aid / stafford loans on this program? From what I know now, Aid and Loans are limited based on the amount of credits being taken. 8.5 credits does not make a full time schedule, so now I am worried about the financing. Anyone have any input on that one?

Good Luck All and thanks for all the good info on the A&P 2 in the summer.;)

Sbp,

I agreed with Annie, NYIT does not have a good passing rate on the NCLEX (state boards)... NCC is close to the top and a bargain financially. NCC is a well established program and accredited.

Karenanda

Thanks, Yea I just read about the passing rate today. I called the school and they told me that They applied a year ago for accreditation however if by the time I graduate they aren't accredited than it will only affect me when Im applying to graduate programs( which I want to do) ..they said though they will eventually become accredited, so after that I should be fine.

Im so on the fence. It just bothers me that in the two years I could spend at nassau I could spend the same time obtaining my BSN.

Do you know of any repercussions with obtaining a job when coming from a non-accredited school?

Thanks so much for the advice.
