Nassau Community College

U.S.A. New York

Hi, all,

I applied to Nassau Community College today for the Spring 2010 semester. I understand that the Spring class is much smaller than the Fall semester. Would anyone mind sharing -- I applied with a 3.75 and all pre-reqs done. Anyone out there get in to the January class in the past with a comparable GPA? I understand that it's all according to the pool of GPA's they receive - 4.0's first, but I'm looking for a glimmer of hope.

Thanks!

Just giving you folks a heads up. If the economy stays the way it is... and with the new law that all ADN nurses must get their BSN within 10 years of graduation my recommendation is to GET YOUR BACHELORS NOW! You'll be sorry you didn't. THERE ARE NO JOBS FOR NEW GRADS right now. The tri state area hospitals are frozen to new grad programs SINCE LAST SUMMER!!!! If you already work in a hospital you MIGHT get a job but many people I know still haven't gotten that job that their hospital promised them after the NCLEX. I have been told by 7 nursing recruiters that BSN nurses are on the top of the HIRE list and ADN's are at the bottom. All of us with Associates have been forced to sign up for a BSN program right away. ITS A HORRIBLE MARKET OUT HERE. I hope by the time you all graduate it will be better. I am just warning you right now some graduates from the December 2008 class have not gotten jobs, VERY FEW maybe 30%-40% of May 2009 have landed jobs, and about 5% of December 2009 have jobs. When I speak of jobs I mean the hospital jobs we all want to get. I am sure if you want to settle for a once every 2 week job at a LTC facility with NO BENEFITS then by all means...Something to ponder.... You have to compete with all of us when you get out. I haven't even mentioned all the hospitals closing which are putting experienced nurses on the market. Then of course there are the BSN graduates from 2008 and on who haven't landed positions. You do the math. You work too hard to get this degree to be at the bottom of a pile!!!!:crying2:

Did anyone get a letter from NCC yet?

This week, I hope!

I hope so too! The good thing is that I had called them 2 weeks ago ago and they told me that they had sent out the first batch of letters. I called today and was told the second batch is being mailed out the end of this week. I am hoping the second batch is the acceptance letter being i havent received anything yet!

Wow, that's really interesting. I didn't know that they sent out some letters already. I'm hoping that those were the first cut and that I'm at least still on the "maybe" list!

LOL I didnt want to say it but I think so too. From what I've think (I could be wrong) they initally put all people on a spreadsheet that applied and I guess whoever didnt make the cut because of low GPA or not having the correct requirements would get the first letter saying sorry they didnt get in. I know for a fact that is what Farmingdale does. Then they review everyone else more thoroughly and make a decision.

The deadline to have everything in was the end of March. I called 2 weeks ago and was told that they had already sending out letters and they wouldnt tell me anything on the phone.

I called again today (I am SO impatient but I cant help it) and was told that the next batch of letters is being sent out this week...so hopefully those are good letters.

I think being we did not get a letter yet could be a good sign.

I have very good grades and almost all pre-preqs done...how about you?

I have all pre-reqs except Lifespan, which I am currently taking. (I took Childhood Dev already, but that course doesn't apply anymore). I have a 4.0 at Nassau (A&P I & II, Micro, Child Dev.) and also have a BA in English w/ a 3.75 GPA from LIU....BUT I have a C and a C+ in Statistics & Intro. to Psych from YEARS ago.....which I didn't realize would have such a huge impact on me getting into the program. I applied for admission this past January and didn't make it.....I wish I had taken those classes over much earlier to improve my GPA. Right now I barely have a 3.7 beacuse of those 2 classes so I'm not counting on anything...just praying!!!

I have a 4.0 but I am taking A&P2 now. I still have to take micro, sociology, and lifespan. I currently attend Farmingdale and live in Queens .... I know those things might go against me so I too am just praying that the 4.0 in itself will save me. From previous threads I know of people with a 4.0 who havent gotten accepted so I pray I get in

I made the mistake of thinking that a current 4.0 at Nassau and a BA with a very good GPA would make a difference for me, but I was wrong. Like you said, I think they must put everyone's "scores" down on a spreadsheet and decide things solely based on their points system. I didn't make the cut for the January class, but I'm hoping that I have a shot at the (larger) September class. Perhaps I'm dreaming, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed! That's all we can do, right?!

In the meantime, I'm just trying to put it out of my mind until something arrives in my mailbox one way or another...

I wish you the best of luck, BTW! :)

I wouldnt worry about not getting accepted for January because I believe for January they only accept like 40 students because its "off season" but for the fall they accept close to 200 students. 3.7 is a VERY strong GPA especially since you have all your pre-reqs done. I remember reading on a website that Nassau Community is more likely to accept someone with a lower GPA with all pre-reqs done than someone with a higher GPA who still has pre-reqs to take and a 3.7 with all pre-reqs is excellent. I too try to not think about it but I find it being all I can think about lol...especially when I see the mailman walking up the block I think to myself "Maybe this is the day" LOL

This week if not next week the latest we should have out answers so good luck to you and me too lol

I just found out I was accepted!!! OMG I cant believe it!!!

I bet you're next!!!
