Nassau Community College

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi, all,

I applied to Nassau Community College today for the Spring 2010 semester. I understand that the Spring class is much smaller than the Fall semester. Would anyone mind sharing -- I applied with a 3.75 and all pre-reqs done. Anyone out there get in to the January class in the past with a comparable GPA? I understand that it's all according to the pool of GPA's they receive - 4.0's first, but I'm looking for a glimmer of hope.

Thanks!

Believe or not 90% passage rate is terrible. I just graduated a school that had a 98% passaging rate and they wanted it higher. Schools don't get funding unless there passage rate is 97% passing or higher.

Then Stony Brook must be in trouble with only a 91% in 2009 if this is true.

Colombia had a 91.5 and NYU had a 88.5 - these are terrible?

The very few schools with a 97+ pass rate are much smaller than the 100's of students that these ones graduate. Apples and oranges, imo.

I dont know where you're from or what your beliefs are but a 90% passing rate in my book is excellent especially when you look at other schools that have way less than that.

Besides most of the schools that have 100% passing rate dont have many students taking the test. Nassau had 168 people taking the test and 145 of them passed - thats seems pretty good to me!

Per the NYS website (see link below), the average passing rate for ADN nursing programs for 2009 is about 85%,

which is below the United States average of about 87%.

The highest NCLEX passing rate for both 2009 and 2009 are Megar Evers in the Bronx, Ellis Hospital, and Jefferson with 100%. After that there is whole range of grades in both ADN and BSN programs, ranging to a low of nearly 64%

Nassau Community College for both 2009 and 2008 have stayed around 87%, which isn't too shabby, and as noted is above the NYS average for two year nursing programs.

That a wonderfull outlook on life, I hope you stay that way. But when you have $40,000 in student loans and no help what so ever it comes down to what you need to survive. Not what you want. By no means is this any discouragment but I may have thought twice if I realized scarce jobs were. Look at stats there more alarming then you imagine.

Hey Jessie I definately agree with you on having $40,000 in schoo loans and not being able to find a job - that must be the scariest thing. That is why I picked NCC over Adelphi so I wouldnt have to god forbid end up in that situation.

Good luck to you and finding a job

Hey everyone -- How was it today?

You want to no the scary part that was just for living expenses. When I finally got into the nursing program at NCC I was two and a half years in and I was offered a full scholarship to get my BSN in the same time. So I took that option but with all the books, reviews, rent, car, insurance, phone, food and summer traveling I had to do with my program thats what I ended up with. Its terrifying and whats sux even more if you default on a student loan repayment your RN license is rovoked. So hopefully by the time you guys graduate the market will be better.

Hey everyone,

How was the interview today? Mine is tomorrow

My daughter's interview was today....it was not bad at all. She was very surprised it went so smoothly!!

You will know right at the interview if you are in! She got her information for classes and clinical inofrmation today!! She will be doing her clinical at New Island Hospital....

Good Luck!

Well something tells me that no one from NCC will be graduating with 40K in student loans when their program without financial aid is barely 20K. I understand you're going through rough times but everyone entering nursing this year I'm sure is pretty aware of the current job situation in NY.

Annor congratulations for your daughter!!!!

Did they ask her a lot of questions?

How long was she there for and what type of questions did they ask?
