I have applied to Nassau Community College's Nursing Program for the third and final time. I have been declined two other times and if I get denied a third time I will not apply again. It is getting a little embarrassing that I keep on getting declined.
Their lose is another school's gain...
Planettelex, I am a second year nursing student at NCC and can tell you that there is no waiting list for the nursing program. However, the admissions are done on a rolling basis, each semester. Basically, fall sem they tend to accept about 100-150 students and spring about 50-70. Each semester, they compare all of the applicants' GPAs/credits taken. So if one semester, many applicants have 3.9's over many credits, those students will be accepted first. When I applied and was accepted, I had a 3.8 GPA over 75 credits. You could potentially get in right away, as I did, but some students are not as lucky. If you apply and do not get accepted for fall sem, try for spring and then the following fall. The incoming students always have different GPAs/credits taken and you could get accepted at any time. It's not necessarily easy to get in under any circumstances, but you should always try again if you don't get in the first time.
Planettelex, remember any school wants people to apply and will not discourage you. They want you to pay that application fee. However, do try.
Tracey, please give us an update on this thread since it is over a year old. If you haven't gotten into a RN progra, I would advice a LPN program so more doors can open for you!
HI - just graduated NCC in May and I have to say - it took me two trys with a 4.0 to get in. Of course after two years at NCC - my GPA is no longer a 4.0 that is for sure!! I know people who have retaken classes that they had taken years ago to raise their GPA, can you do something like that, and would you even want to take the time? You didn't mention your GPA, but I have heard that even 3.5 won't cut it right now -there are too many people waiting. Its a shame though.....
Tracy,
Sorry about not getting into NCC but hang in there!
How come you havent tried Farmingdale? Their tuition is not too much - maybe just alittle more than NCC but not much. Farmingdale is where I am currently taking my pre-reqs plus their schedule flexible is unbeatable.
If you dont mind me asking, what are your grades in your pre-reqs, and have you taking all your pre-reqs?
My opinion - Dont give up!!
Keep trying Nassau...also Farmingdale, Laguardia, and Queensborough have cheap tuition too.
Please keep us updated and good luck
Hello everyone,I was accepted to the NCC nursing program on the second try. It really depends on the applicants that are considered because my 3.55 GPA got me accepted. So, there is hope of getting in if you do not have a 4.0. Good luck to all.:)
When you applied the second time, did you have all the LIberal ARts classes already?

In 2007 I was accepted into the Philips Beth Israel School of Nursing. Since I have never had any experience with patient care and I started to freak out and get very nervous and I ended up dropping out. I have regretted my decision ever since.
Earlier this year I started to finish up my bachelor's in Sociology. In April of this year my father was diagnosed with lung cancer with mets to the bone. He passed away in June. I still think about nursing. He only spent one night in hospice but I think that I may re-visit nursing after I graduate. If I do, I believe that hospice nursing is the route that I will go.
Good luck to all!!!
so, who has applied for the spring 09 semester?
I am...I passed my application yesterday and I was the first in that box...They started taking applications Oct 6 and will be accepting till the 24th.
I'm not too confident about my grades but I thought why not apply for the Spring, who knows. I only have Microbio and A&P 2 to finish and I'm taking it this semester.
If I do not get in for Spring, there's always Fall semester :wink2:

Wow, then i wonder if they are lying to me then.. I am moving to NY in December and called Nassau community college and soke with the head of Nursing admissions. She told me that there is no wait. If i applied i could get in right away, and if anything i might have to wait one semester. Now that i read your post im wondering if she is full of it or not.. What was your GPA, and what classes have you completed? I know i have a 3.7 GPA right now and have taken all classes and some that are required. Please let me know
Thanks
