Cochran School of Nursing
The scheduled time are only there as an estimate. Everything depends on your Instructors and how quick you are in learning your skills. We almost always are let out an hour ealier than the scheduled time. Its about the same during Saturdays. The only few times we had to stay a little longer (extra 15 or 20 mins) would be during topics where we had a lot of questions. No one in our class ever had to stay overnight because of a missed train sched hehe. And also, you would forge friendships with people in your class who has cars that might live near you or you can ride with to the city. Don't worry yourself about that, it would definitely be the last of your worries

I believe difficulty of the class depends on the person taking it. If you are confident with your mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) then I would think that you would find the class easy. But whether you take it online or in class, you would still encounter the same problems and all the faculty are easily accesible for questions. It's just a matter of convenience. Hope this helps =)

I took Math dosage online over the summer as part of their pilot class...It was great...I studied in my own pace...It was great since I wanted to work full time...I'm not too sure what the in class sched is like, but I'm pretty sure if you're in the Sat program, it will not be the same day as your clinical days...

NYC clinicals are done at Kateri Residence by Riverside drive but it can change for Spring. It still depends on Cochran. I would also suggest taking the Math Dosage class online specially if you do not live near the school. If you have questions about anything there is always a time set per week for conference chat with your assigned instructor or you can send them email too.

International Student interested in a 2 year ADN program
Hey there... By International Student, do you mean you are not a resident alien (green card holder)? Most schools now require you have one to be accepted. I was told that it was because they had problems with undocumented students before. Also, most schools has pre requisite classes. Nursing programs, whether 2 yr or the BSN, requires either A&P 1 or both 1 and 2, English Composition and General Psychology. I dont think you'll have a problem getting into BMCC as a Liberal Arts student to take the pre requisites. Talk to an Academic Advisor and they'll be able to answer most of your questions and how you can go about in starting your trekk towards a Nursing degree. Hope this helps =)

Saturday class goes to NYC for clinicals but just for some weeks, not for all clinical days. If you're done with all you general ed requirements, you will only go to school 2 nights on the weekdays and Saturday mornings. Most of the clinicals will be spent in the skills lab to practice your skills before we go to the patients. Saturday still finishes in two years, but you have the option to take fast track in the summer. It's basically taking the 3rd semester in the summer and finishing the degree the following Fall. I heard it's pretty intense so I'm still apprehensive about it, my second semester will probably be my deciding factor. Hope this helps =)

Hey The interview was pretty basic, they would ask you why you chose nursing and what are your future plans in reference to your nursing career. It would be a plus if you have plans of pursuing you Bachelor's and Master's. They would also ask you about your current status re:job and family life and what motivates you to succeed. The Saturday class is much like the evening I believe. Evenings meet 3 nights on weekdays. We meet 2 nights during the week and Saturday mornings. We're also going to a Nursing Home in the city for clinicals. The evening class goes to one in Yonkers. But you will spend most of your clinicals at school learning your skills necessary to go into bedside nursing. About the TEAS, if you had problems with Reading Comprehension with the NET, I would suggest slowing down a little and read carefully. Make sure you understand the question fully. It's really hard to study for Reading Comprehension cause unlike Math, you cannot memorize a formula or how to do something. I suggest practice...practice...practice...with your NET review book or a TEAS reviewer...whatever you have will definitely help in preparing you for the test. Hope this helps. Good luck =)

HI...I applied to Cochran for Spring '09 but at that time I was still taking my A&P 2 (yes, A&P 1 and 2 are pre reqs)...Took the TEAS (no Science at that time yet). You get your TEAS exam grade right away and that's when they decide if they can set you up for your interview date, but since I didnt have my A&P 2 grade yet, I was asked to get a letter from my professor which I did and mailed to the school. For some reason they never got it and I just gave up on Cochran altogether. At the same time I was accepted by St. Vincents for Fall '09. As I was waiting for my requirements and everything from St. Vincents, I got letters from Cochran asking for my A&P 2 grade, I thought why not send my new transcript, so I did, not really thinking why. I also got letters stating I need to take the Science part for consideration for the Fall program. I ignored it. Got another letter stating since I applied when Science wasn't required I didn't have to take it. Ignored it. Got a call from the registrar wanting to set me up for an interview. Thought about it and told myself to go to the interview just to see what is available. At that time I was panicking cause summer was almost over and I do not know what my schedule at St. Vincent's would be, I needed to work at least 36 hrs a week to support my school expenses and my 4 yr daughter. I came for my interview, everyone was so nice and accomodating, spoke to the Dean. She explained everything and asked me which program I am interested in. I said I am leaning towards the Saturday program and she explained how it would go. Asked me if I would be interested to take Online Math Dosage that summer as part of the pilot class. I said I am interested and told me that she wants me for the school and told me I should expect my acceptance packet that week. I went home still undecided since I already sent my reservation to St. Vincents. I got everything that week. We started class Aug 29 =) Saturdays was great for me. We have lecture on Saturdays from 9 am til about 1pm and clinicals Mon and tue nights from 5:30 to 11pm. I loved Cochran and I'm so glad I made the decision to go there instead. I work in the mornings and go to class after on clinical days and every school day I am so excited to go to class. If you have any questions about Cochran feel free to PM me. Good luck and hope to see you next semester =)

Accepted Cochran Nursing School
On the day of my interview, I was told that I am accepted into the program and was asked if I would be interested in taking the online dosage class this summer and that I will be getting my acceptance letter in a few days. I also got my medical stuff and completed it. I received a phone call from the school a couple of weeks before the dosage class was set to start and was required to come in on the first day (June 1st). Class ran for four weeks. Today's our finals. I'm still waiting for my packet for orientation and registration, but I was told it will be on the first week of August. I was under the impression that we can take the non-nursing classes at the same time as the nursing classes at a different college besides Mercy. Did they tell you that you have to take nutrtion before coming in Cochran? cause I'm planning to take Nutrition either Fall or Spring at Nassau CC...

Hi Crystal, I'm also accepted in their Saturday program. From what I was told, we only go to class on saturdays (hehe thus the Saturday program) at the campus and two nights clinicals from 5:30 to 11:30...Are you taking Dosage Calculations this summer? I enrolled in their pilot online class and so far so good =)

Nassau Community College Nursing Program
Your grades are not BAD...It's actually better than mine..hehe...and I got accepted at St. Vincent's in Queens, so don't be sad...If it will interest you, SVCMC is accepting applications for the Fall semester...deadline is Feb 20 and they accept on a rolling basis so if you send in your application early, you stand a higher chance in being accepted. Also do great on your NLN-PAX RN exam for Farmingdale. I spoke to an Admissions Counselor there and he told me I'm on the waiting list for Fall 09 pending my A&P 2 and Microbio grade. I already took the NLN last year and I applied to the LPN program that starts on January. The counselor called me up to offer me seat for the LPN program, but told me he'd rather put me in the RN program. So I'm waiting on that. If that pushes through then I have an option to stay in LI and not do the 30 to 45 min drive to Queens. Apply apply and apply. Do not be afraid to be persistent. And never ever be discouraged. I'm taking Chemistry and Public Speaking in the Spring while waiting for the Fall semester to come. Just thought I'd knock out some classes towards a BSN in the future. Good luck and God bless :nurse:

Best School for Me - NYC
Why don't you try to take the CLEP. Some schools accept that as a substitute.

Spring 09 Hopefuls
Thanks LINurse! I got accepted at Saint vincent's in Fresh Meadows, NY. They were actually my first choice mainly because of the small close knit family feel of the school and the faculty that interviewed me was very nice and never intimidating. I felt that everyone in the school is there to help us succeed and that made me even more excited to start Nursing School. Congratulations to you too:yeah:

A&PII Hardest Topics
Endocrine and Cardio were my favorite topics...I had a little problem with the Digestive System (lowered my grade drastically).
