i was just interviewed at Memorial Sloan Kettering where they are nonunion and are starting new grads at 70,000 plus 10% nights differential.

question is, is this a good hospital to work at, especially for a new nurse?

that's a pretty decent salary. What I have noticed is that Cancer hospitals pay a lot better than regular hospitals...Good luck to you.

St. Francis does have some type of loan forgiveness program, after 6 mons working nights, you get $500 a month towards your student loans. Just a warning Mercy Med center is in trouble, be careful working for them.

I believe that Sloan Kettering has a major competitive DISadvantage: they don't have an employer-sponsored pension, which you DO get at a NYSNA-unionized hospital and 1199-unionized hospital..I believe Memorial Sloan simply provides a 401(k)-type plan, which consists of the EMPLOYEE putting in $ and the employer putting in ZILCH.....perhaps Sloan Kettering nurses should consider being represented by NYSNA....

It would be horrible to think that Sloan did this to their employees, however, they do in fact have a program set up for employees (not the 401K) that they contribute to. I know quite a few people who work there and have taken advantage of this. Because they have such a great benefits package and a wonderful facility they will always be competition to unionized hospitals.

oh my gosh this is totally depressing me.. i am interviewing in st louis and we only start at 18/hr!!! If my fiance wasn't here, I'd consider moving for sure!

Can anyone who actually works there confirm or deny this? The poster wrote "program set up for employees that THEY contribute to..." THEY are the employees---exactly my point...the hospital puts no $ in, whereas a NYSNSA-organized hospital puts upwards of 11,000+/yr per employee for a defined-BENEFIT pension---very nice benefit...Thanks to allnurses.com for helping to compare the actual pay packages.....I also hear that Sloan does NOT pay a bonus for a BSN....is this true?

You've to consider the fact that the living standard in New York City is so much higher as compare to most states.

sloan does have a pension plan. it's not much though, from what i understand of the formula they use. they also have a 403b plan, and they do not match. you're also not eligible for either of these until after one year of employment. and no, no bonus for BSN.
