I currently have a 9 year old girl I am taking care of on unit. She was raped resulting in surgical repair to entire pelvic floor and also needed a colostomy. As I change her sheets and such I just don't know what to do. I cry everytime I walk in there. I just want to hold her. She isn't allowed visitors and she is so scared. My heart is breaking. Any advice?
Well, I know anyone would do it for someone they love so, it is really no biggee. Thanks for the compliment though. I am just glad I was able to do it. My mom and dad live in Mississippi. So, we had to travel. It was a long way! My mom and I were not an exact match though. So, she needed plasmapheresis. (Not sure if I spelled it correctly). This is why we traveled to Mayo. You are right it is an amazing place! It was an adventure. The good news is my mom is doing very well and I am as well. This thread is not about my donation though so...I digress. I am really impressed with a person who can unselfishly take on the responsibility of another human being who is not even related to them! You are truly amazing. I am really sorry to hear that you endured a similar incident. No one should ever have to suffer so. I have a friend who was a roommate of mine when I was a flight attendant living in NYC who was dating a guy who had been kidnapped and molested by a karate instructor in a hotel room for months when he was a kid. It was a very well known story in the early 80's. Anyway, the boy's father met the airplane the molester came in on and shot the man and killed him! The crazy part is it was being filmed by a news crew! Here is the best part, the boy's dad was aquitted of murder! They were recently, like a few years ago on 20/20. I was so glad he he was not convicted!! The molester died at the hands of his victim's dad. WOW!!!! I would hate to think of what I would do if someone hurt my neices or nephews. (I do not yet have children.)

I agree if this had happened to own of my kids it would be awul difficult to refrain from inflicting serious damage to the perps. I'm glad he was aquitted.
I know! I just got done putting my 11 week old niece and nephew twins to bed for my sister and was just thinking about how I would shot the perverts @#$% off if they ever hurt them. I am so excited to hear updates about this sweet little girl. What a lucky girl to have met such a sweet care taker.
I am not yet a nurse. I am currently playing the waiting game. I just sent off my application. I just hope I have as much compassion as all of you sweet nurses on here! This is such a great forum.
I am sure you will be an excellent nurse. Good luck on your new adventure you can DO IT I believe in you!! Well I bette try to get some rest while I can. she's been sleeping most of the day so I figure she'll be awake before much longer. I'm going to pull the recliner over to her bed and hold her hand for the night so I'm here when she wakes up. I love seeing that beautiful smile of hers when she sees me beside her, priceless.
What a great way to start a new year. Surrounded by someone who loves you. That is just what she needs. Good luck, take care of her.
Thanks, oh she will be taken care of. I've been accused of spoiling my kids too much so now I will have one more kiddo to spoil rotten as well.lol. I go to court in about an hour. When I get back I'm bringing her some more balloons and a card welcoming her into our family. My kids get home Sunday, so I am setting up an appt. with the therapist to meet with them first then all of us, hopefully to ease the transition. If she keeps doing well she should be coming home by mid week.
:hpygrp:The court session took all of about 10 minutes. It's official she's coming home with me next week if she's recovered enough!! When I got back to the hosp. I ran to her room to tell her. Oh my gosh she smiled and cried and then asked a million questions about my house and kids. Today has made all the emotional turmoil I've put myself through the last 2 weeks so worth it. Thank you to every single person who has said a prayer for her and for us.
