These are the Facts based on nearly 4 weeks of this Pandemic. I have been on the front lines. Read Carefully and heed my warning.
1) If you suffer from Asthma, Lung CA, COPD, and/or other chronic lung disorders, your chances of surviving COVID-19 are slim to none. This virus attacks the lungs hard, if your lungs are already weakened, your already on the losing end of the battle with the virus.
2) If your a chronic smoker, vape, or smoke marijuana, you too, are on the losing ending of this battle.
3) Patients with no past medical history can also get very sick or even die from this virus, I have seen it happen. Why this is is not completely understood at this time, but it could be linked to lifestyle choices if you look at #2 Fact.
4) If your Obese, you likely have a weakened immune system. You also likely suffer from HTN, DM II, CAD, and other chronic health disorders which weaken your immune system. You will likely develop a severe illness from this virus and potentially be put on a ventilator.
5) Many patients who survive and are discharged require oxygen at home. Yes, you will likely need oxygen support when you leave the hospital. For how long? It's not known, but I have seen patients who need an additional 1-2 weeks of O2 support after discharge.
6) Many patients are dying from the virus. Morgues are filled to capacity in the hospital. If your loved one is dead, they are likely in a refrigerated truck.
7) This virus will NOT vanish during the Summer months. If you look at countries with warmer climates like Brazil, Ecuador, Turkey, and Egypt, these countries have large outbreaks. Warm weather can possibly slow down the virus but it won't go away.
9. Many COVID+ patients I have dealt with are getting progressively worse. Very few improve. And many have been in the hospital for more than 2 weeks already.
10) Your healthcare Co-workers will get sick and die from this virus. Many at my facility have gotten sick from this virus and are now patients themselves.
My friends, the danger is very real. This virus shows no mercy. I personally do not think it's worth putting your life in danger for money. A job is replaceable, your life isn't. Think carefully of what you will do next. Will you quit? If you do, I don't blame you. There is little we know about this virus and not enough protection. You are the author of your destiny.
Stay Blessed,

Stay Blessed,
You cannot fairly state these are all facts and I'm sorry, but I find it very disheartening to see a nurse spreading this kind of fear and misinformation. The fact is statistically most people who get this virus DO recover and with the prevalence of all the conditions you have listed there is no way many of the people who have already recovered don't have some of the underlying illnesses for which you state chances of survival are "slim to none". This is a public forum so I worry people who are already scared and uninformed will come here to read what nurses are saying, see something like this and panic even more than they already are.
Many areas in the US have very few cases and deaths, so not everyone is going to have the same experience you are with this virus. I am one of those people who lives in an area that just isn't seeing that level of destruction. I don't want to downplay this or say it isn't serious, because it most certainly is for some, but you are only seeing and acknowledging the worst in this post, and not taking in to account the thousands of people that aren't patients in your hospital who have already recovered or who will recover.

These people are not healthy! They have many medical problems already and this virus just hits them first and harder bc they are not healthy. The other problem is the deaths from covid19 are heavy skewed, they are rating any death right now as being caused from covid19. So when your plagued already with many illnesses and most likely to die on your own, we blame covid19... The media isn't helping, the brain washed people are not helping and it's made this virus get bigger and seem more dangerous than it is. Almost all of nurses had to take a Microbiology course at some point, you need to open a textbook and look how viruses work. What we have done to quarantine the healthy to save the elderly and sick is just wrong! You don't quarantine those who are good, you quarantine those that are sick. It minimizes spread and keeps healthy people healthy. In order to stay healthy bodies need sunlight, exercise and good nutrition as basics. We have now removed those necessities to the healthy so a few sickly people can continue to roam and feel better. For every sick person among healthy it drags the virus to more locations and the incubation time never stops. Germs, bacteria and virus eventually die off. But only when properly sanitized or decontaminated
I think your intentions are in the right place; but this "any death right now is being attributed to Covid-19" and "These are all really sick people who were going to die anyway" isn't true.
If you meant that Covid-19 is being put down under cause of death if positively diagnosed from tests or symptoms even when other medical conditions exist, then I think you're right. However, lots of people have those comorbid conditions and more as we age, but they are chronic conditions so death rates 2x normal or more among pts with positive Covid-19 Dx is a pretty strong indicator that Covid-19 is a critical factor in those deaths.
Quote10) Your healthcare Co-workers will get sick and die from this virus. Many at my facility have gotten sick from this virus and are now patients themselves.
I've been working on a COVID+-only unit for a month. In that time, we've transferred a handful to ICU, many of whom have survived, and had a couple of comfort care patients die. Not one of my colleagues has tested positive, or even been out sick. I am not one of those who says the risks are overblown, but I don't think it's as dire as the OP states, either. My state's curve seems to be flattening. As long as we use PPE correctly, wash our hands and maintain social distancing in public, I'm hopeful we can stay healthy.

Yes anyone right now even those with cancer on death bed prior to this outbreak are being listed as dying from covid19.
That is what makes the numbers of sick and deaths so weirdly skewed. Since all of us have taken a statistics course. We know how adding inflated numbers throws off results. They do this often in drug testing and politics etc. They remove those outliers or add in the largest ones to make something look worst or better but in drastic means. What noone is getting is the graphed % rate done at? 80%, 99% or 95% even.... who knows and when they state a +\- of 3% of what start point. Including outliers or not? We simply hear media news that then takes their own numbers and edits them to benefit news rates. Or politicians that are all "elderly" and of course don't want people out so that they end up exposed as they are the "critical" aged and potential to be exposed and die. The judges and politicians and governors these people are who put quarantine in the books, these are who are making commercials to stay in home and be "selfless" don't get others sick. Of course they want that bc in actual reality "my family" out will most likely not get sick or if so they will recover and be fine. We will continue to work and prosper. These people want their "cushy" jobs that by the way they are all still working and us the public gets to pay for, all while we stay at home and have no money. We worry about a virus that may or may not kill people based on numbers that are so ridiculously low! Even globally low! That we had allowed a broken economy over. And no it's not selfish to want to have a job, pay your bills and feed your children. Peoples sanity revolves around security. The one thing this virus and this pandemic and quarantine will do for sure is create a wide spread "suicide" rate and depression and people will be on welfare. Those that don't have money and barley made ends meet, will be on the streets. Middle class is worried as they wonder what jobs or home they will have after this. The push off of rent or payments has heavy taxes on them or interests for many. The businesses that are small owned suffer most as they may not have one to come back to.
Yes this was a long post and not aimed at above commenter.... This is a realistic comment and issue that "real" people are faced with. That noone cares about. We had an idiot (Fauci) get the gov/public worried over a virus, he made huge! People like him, people in CDC or genomics or edidemiology fields wait their entire lives to face up with a virus/bacteria/ fungi whatever like this. They write books and research papers and develop vaccines off this stuff. They don't care about you or me, they don't want a cure. They don't want fast and done, then they become irrelevant again. Drag out some dangerous plague and the longer it's around the more famous he becomes..
The next benefactor will be the big pharma. Get ready for a whole lot of money to come in for a vaccine or some type of experimental drug they will fast track and make billions off of.

Chunkybubblz3, are you a licensed nurse? I'm just curious.
Your thoughts that COVID a U.S. government conspiracy (even though it has a global impact), that we're unnecessarily worried about a pandemic virus with a 4% mortality rate (high), that medical researchers don't want to help people or discover cures, and use of words "big pharma" make me think not. I have met a lot of jerks in my nursing career... Every single one of those jerks wanted patients to have good outcomes.
I agree people are experiencing huge devastation, and that requires huge compassion and willingness to help meet the needs in our communities.
I disagree that the protective measures that have rocked life as people know it are unnecessary. They are in place to protect *many* more people than the elderly politicians you mentioned.
I'm sorry some people here are giving you flak. I for one, heed your warnings seriously, as does my entire hospital system (large system in central Texas). I get very frustrated with other nurses (like some on this thread) minimizing the risks and gravity of this situation. Every time a healthcare professional downplays the situation, that opens up the general public to say, "see, its not so bad." Then they gather and march and break stay-in-place orders and then guess what? They spread the virus and more people die, even some of the ones who felt 'it wasn't so bad.'
And while I absolutely see that nurses in different types of units or different geographic locations experience this virus differently, those differences should not negate the severity of the situation. This is not the flu, its not Ebola, its not the common cold and nurses need to recognize and advocate for the health of our general public in the US, which means high numbers of people with the conditions OP describes, even high numbers of nurses. I get so angry with nurses blowing this off and not taking it seriously.
I suspect there is an underlying truth to what you say and I have no patience for those who prefer denial over reality.
Though we are flying blind without mass testing that for some reason I can't figure out we still aren't able to do en masse at a national level all as countries around the world supposedly less developed have managed to do fluently. Without that it's hard to say for sure what's what.

THIS is the issue. I like being a nurse and fully understand the risks. However - reusing PPE, employers telling employees to use their own PTO bank when they get sick from covid, etc.....that is the problem.

I'm sure someone in metro NY, NJ, MI, MA, CT, TX,CA, FL, IL, WI will be happy to give you a tour of those refrigerated trucks. If it hasn't hit you that hard yet consider yourself blessed. But not representative.

For every sick person among healthy it drags the virus to more locations and the incubation time never stops. Germs, bacteria and virus eventually die off. But only when properly sanitized or decontaminated and then not reexposed again. As for those in hospitals, our morgues are not full and not every hospital is maxed out in beds. My sister is an anesthesiologist doctor and she is no more busy than normal, the only thing different is the surgeries are not elective. People are still having babies and no deaths and still having heart surgery and coming out just fine. She is healthy and fine and has had few days off she said except Easter. And as for those complaining over death benefits if they get sick vs military or police. They have pensions and they have life insurance. If you die on the job from your job, companies do pay out and families get money. If you want family protection in any job, pay for it! Get life insurance it is very cheap monthly for peace of mind. You got into a field that any day everyday you can be poked or cut or coughed on etc and exposed to death or lifetime illness, you became a nurse esp those recently for great pay over do gooder morals. That is why nursing school is competitive more than ever before, and nurse make almost as much as higher skilled jobs. When your nurse can make what a PA or NP or a GE-FPMD is making with years of more school and debt and responsibility, I think you can afford some life insurance and less complaining.
