My really cool, doctor going above and beyond story

Published

Specializes in LDRP.

Pt to be d/c'd. Needs lovenox at home, just a few doses.

Finds out that her home pharmacy doesn't carry lovenox, adn wont have it until next day. she NEEDS it tonight, though.

Plus, she has no money for her copay. they are on a fixed income, and it is hte end of the month.

I think of a very nearby pharmacy that stocks many hard to find meds. including lovenox. i tell teh doc, he calls them. they have it. but, they close in 30 minutes from time he's calling.

so lady needs to get over there in less than 30 minutes. i need 10 mins to finish d/c. her husband can't drive her over-he's disabled. she'd have to go to the parking garage, get her own car, drive it the 5 minutes to the pharmacy, park, etc. Just wasn't guaranteed. Besides the fact that she didn't have money.

here's the good part

the doctor drove the patient over, in his own car, and paid her copay.:saint: :saint:

i totally gained a whole new level of respect for the man. that was the greatest thing i've seen in a long time.

Thanks for sharing, nice to know there are still Docs with a :redbeathe around!

Those kind of stories are great to hear! Just when you start to wonder sometimes if many docs have a heart...

We have a doc that has been known to go to a patients house and bring them in to the hospital b/c they are unable to pay the ambulance cost and they have noone to bring them in. I sure do wish there were more people out there like them!

Thank you for this wonderful post. I love hearing about the good side of healthcare work. Bless that doctor for being there for his pt.

Specializes in Orthosurgery, Rehab, Homecare.

When I was Dx'ed with depression/anxiety I was in the middle of an anxiety attack and in total denial. My MD caught me trying to leave w/o going up to the counciling dept like he told me too. He put his arm around me (saying I must be lost :)), took me up there himself, introduced me to the Psychologist. He called me at home the next day to see that I was OK. He also talked the drug rep out of some extra samples of my SSRI (college ='s no $) and called me to tell me he had them. He helped "save" me from myself and I partially credit my now stable mental health to him. I guess some of them do it for the right reasons, not the $.
