  1. It may be wrong in your opinion, but maybe it is less than fair for you to intervene. I am sure the school he attends and the board of nursing where he lives is competent enough to come to their own deliberations and conclusions about his particular situation. The things you said about this guy sound really bad. But you have to consider this: Unless you were work in HR at his past job or you were his supervisor and handed him his pink slip, there is certainly a window of opportunity that you do not entirely know the circumstances that led to him being fired. Unless you are psychic, you probably don't have the ability to read minds. How fair is it for you to testify about this guys true intentions to become nurse? Gosh, sometimes people can change. Please do not take offense to me suggesting that the time you spend playing detective on this gentleman may be better invested in you and your family.:icon_hug:
  2. I didn't know they were having any problems financially. What is Tenet? What kind of benefits do you think are really good that they have? Thanks for the information!
  3. Congratulations!
  4. sorry for the information overload. :) i too have moved to a new town before in the name of getting a larger paycheck. i know that the decisive factor in making a decision on whether or not to move goes beyond finding out if your employer has free parking. you also have to secure safe housing for you and your family. here is alabama's sex offender site where you can see what registered sex offenders live in the zip you are planning to move into: http://community.dps.state.al.us/ it would behoove you to think about the school zone you live in unless you don't mind there being a window of opportunity for your baby to go to a lousy school once they are become school age. you could always check with tuscaloosa's board of education for test statistics to know which school has students who are doing well and which schools are on track to have their children graduate from high school without knowing how to add 2 plus 2. good luck sound
  5. wow! thats great! do you know if they only pay fedreal loans or do they do private nursing loans too? do u have an idea what new grads are getting there these days?
  6. Thanks for your post to my questions! I have an apt. with an advisor this week. I have a lot of questions to ask them.
  7. Hello- Has anyone had any luck getting into jscc in b'ham AL? if so, what general courses did you take before getting admitted? It is not clear to me if AP II is a pre req before admissions or if it is a course inside your curriculum. I have had everything from AP-I to Developmental PSY. the only non nursing courses i lack are AP II and Micro-bio. I am going to try to apply for the spring of 2007. thanks ahead of time for your comments to this thread!!!
  8. thanks for the book info, utopia ! i will check it out!
  9. for what it is worth to you.... both cities are growing cities. i strongly recommend Tuscaloosa as a great place to raise a family. i am not a nurse yet and i have never worked in any health care setting so i do not know anything about if dch or any hospitals offer on site daycare. if u wind up seeking daycare off the hospital's campus then i would look for a program with a curriculum like abecca. my child went to Open Door in northport (big church , mixed ethnic background, very polite loving sweet teachers. its also has a school through the 12th grade) and Christian Community Learning Center( primarily African American students, wonderful polite, sweet, loving SMART teachers- particularly Mrs. Slater who teaches the children Spanish and the director, Mrs Sutton, ( a former teacher)who made sure her graduating children could read before they graduate from pre school and would send all the 4-5 yr old children home with spelling flash cards to practice almost each night. I went to Rose Towers ( University of AL's on campus daycare and part of a co ed dorm) as a child because one of my parent's worked at the UA and the other was a student at the UA. if you go back to school anytime soon this may be an option for u and your family if u attend the UA. Also, housing can cost you a pretty penny too. Lots of people r moving to the eastside of Tuscaloosa. Sadly, the town is quite divided as far as housing in concerned. As a result, even in this day in time, many of the schools in the city are still segregated to a degree. you will see almost only one race in the high schools on different parts of town . Tuscaloosa's crime is not like New York or other big city's crime. I personally feel safe raising a family almost anywhere in Tuscaloosa. If you r looking for a very very nice apartment complex you might want to look at Inverness apartments. they are pricey but you get what you pay for because they are nice. they are not next to any hospitals and the traffic is quite congested in the morning, however is right on a main highway. a great elementary school is woodland Forrest. the staff is great and they have an after school/extended day program right in the school when the school gets out. a lot of students in the 35405 zip go there. they have a program called enrichment for gifted students to participate in. I was in this program for a few years. it was so cool and interesting! be aware of your children's curriculum's as they get high school age. back when i went to school they did not have a very strict or tough standards for graduation. i think the highest math i took in high school was alga 2 and as a result, when i went o college i didn't do too hot in colg alg because i was ill prepared. anyhoot, i wish u the best and i think u will be very happy in t town or northport! ps- did i mention that you should not go to the grocery store on game days? get a mini football schedule and put it on your fridge. it once took me an hour to travel 15 miles in Tuscaloosa on game day. oh and by the way there are tons of gyms to join but the cheapest way to get exercise and have family fun is to go to the quad on the UA campus. its huge and littered with joggers, people walking their dogs & taking their babies for a stroll and students goofing around playing football. There is also a Chucky Cheese in a shopping center past University Mall and C.H.O.M-children's hand's on museum somewhere downtown i think unless they have closed down. ( there are two malls pratically down the street from each other) If I had to choose a bank outside of a credit union it would be Regions because it is everywhere in Tuscaloosa and N'port which may prove to be convenient. Not to mention they just merged with Amsouth.
  10. i am afraid that i am in need of help sometimes myself. i have had panic attacks at times where i was comfortably reading a pleasurable book.many days i have slept for nearly 24 hours instead of studying. i get so uncontrollably tired that i can't do anything until i get all the sleep my body craves. i know this sounds contradictory, but i am not a procrastinator. i don't want to be this way. I've got goals and sleeping my life away is not one of them!! i so rather do things in a timely fashion but i can not help how my body reacts to things that could be stressful. i managed to keep my grades above a 3.0. I am so interested in learning everything i can about nursing and i love love love my classes. however, battling my body's reactions to stress and anxiety is like fighting a very energy draining time consuming war. i just want to get up and study when time allots, not when my body feels like its a good time to study. i feel like it is a miracle that i am doing as well as i am scholastically. at times the only time i can study is between 1 am and 4 am. don't ask why. if i miss this boat then i am just out of luck for that day. i find myself being ridiculously angry about small things and i totally aware of it but i can not put the brakes on my potty mouth or my rotten mood. i feel like i wear the biggest mask sometimes. i have made a perfect score on tests, but i can't organize a sock drawer. my car and my house is a mess. not because i am a slob. my mother didn't raise me to be that way. i was not always this way. i want to change back to being the productive person i have been in the past. can anyone relate remotely? i have only seen a med. doc who checked me out physically. i dint want to be a hypochondriac but i know what i go through just can't b normal. i am afraid to take medicines that may help me for they may make me sleepy and also i don't want to have to lie to my employer so i want be discriminated against.
  11. lady bug- thank you for being so brave to talk about this subject! i too wonder if there is a connection between nursing and mental illness statistics? have you or anyone you ever known been discriminated against for not disclosing to employers?
  12. hello- has anyone had any luck getting their employer to pay back some of their loans once they started working as an RN? I have almost a 1 1/2 left and i am just getting more and more in debt. i have tried to look at getting a scholarship at hospitals like DCH and Brookwood only to no avail. I really need to move closer to my family. they all live in the tuscaloosa area. I am very open to any comments anyone may have on this.
  13. no. i took it on my school's campus. where is it offered on line? i found it to be quite helpful to go to campus to see the things i was studying in person vs looking at pics on line or in a text. a lot of the illustrations used in books and online are misleading. if the pics are drawn by an artist then often the artist may draw a picture of a bone at an angle to capture every detail possible. you may see a picture that has an anterior and postirior markings on it and at first glance the picture may see anatomically impossible. ( i could imagine that any ap class would hold its student responsible for knowing not only the bone but its markings) sometimes looking at something on paper can distort your abilty to gain orientation of the body part you are looking at. good luck to you
  14. if you think they may think ill of youand u dont want to burn bridges then just say not this time but maybe sometime in the future.
