My pockets are overflowing!

Published

Ok, this is a silly question, but where do you carry all of your supplies for the day?

I always have hemostats, trauma shears, small scissors, tape, notepad, palm pilot, sharpies, pen, highlighter, & alcohol wipes with me in my pockets and my pockets feel like they have boulders in them! Where else can I put things to manage my load a little easier?

Amen to the cargo's! They are the best thing since sliced bread well not quite, but close enough.

Please - whatever you do....don't wear a fanny pack  A few nurses at my hospital have been sporting these bad boys....it's just not a good look :chuckle

Edit: NOT that there's anything wrong w/ them!!! :)

I carry a sharpie, two pens, and a small pair of scissors in one pocket and alcohol wipes, little blue caps, 1-2 saline flushes in my other pocket. Everything else is in my bag.

I love the dickie tops with the 2 pockets and 1 small pocket in the pocket. I keep my tape on my hemostat clamped to my shirt.

Palm pilot and chapstick in the left pocket, 2 pens, spare change and a few dollars in the right pocket. In the mini pocket I keep my scissors, etoh wipes and maybe a few flushes.

I have a transparent clip board for my report sheets, etc. On the underside, I mounted common lab values, unit phone numbers and pc logins, etc. All which show throught the clip board.

I use a carabiner to put my two pairs of scissors on then clip it in the waistband of my pants.

I knew there was a limit to how much stuff could go in the scrub top pockets when I sat down to use the bathroom... and had pens and PDA wind up on the floor. One nurse I work with dropped her PDA in the toilet! So I gotta have the long tops, stuff falls out of the short tops and I can't stop putting all that crap in the pockets...

I solve this by wearing cargo pants at work. Haven't lost anything yet, unless I put something in the wrong pocket! ;)

I have recently considered buying an nurse's apron, but the thought of one more thing attached around my waist made me go crazy... FYI- it may seem lame, but a few years ago I worked with a Nurse that wore a sleeve-less nursing vest/jacket that had multiple pockets. She made it look easy, without being weighted down. You may have to look online at different nursing uniform sites- Good Luck!

I'd try cargo pants, but I can never find them in a petite size. If I bought a pair and hemmed the length, the cargo pocket would be somewhere around my knee or shin, and that's not very handy.

I wear a two-pocket scrub top and stuff the following into my pockets:

- Left pocket: Report sheet, lip gloss, calculator, travel-sized lotion, and a small spiral notebook.

- Right pocket: My nursey stuff -- a couple saline flushes, scissors, alcohol pads, sharpie, and my ultimate nursing pen (tricolor with highlighter).

I usually keep tape on my stethoscope around my neck, but it irritates me because the tape always tries to fall off. I bought a hemostat a couple days ago for my tape to clip it to my scrub top; we'll see how that goes. I don't like how dirty the edges of the tape gets either. I was thinking of getting one of those tape guards that someone else mentioned on here.

Has anyone tried the stethoscope "hip clip"? My neck is getting irritated/sore/strained from my stethoscope hanging off it all the time. I've tried curling it up and putting it in my left pocket, but it sticks out too much. I've seen the hip clip in the store but am afraid it will pull my pants down with it if I attach it to them.

We use ships that have lockable drawers in them, so I keep a bunch of flushes, 2x2s, alcohol wipes, syringes, needles etc in there since I take the cart with me on am assessments. After that, I just grab flushes as I need them and keep one or two in my scrub top pocket.

In my pockets: left pocket I keep alcohol wipes, tape, a flush or two, and 2x2s. Right pocket- a pen, a sharpie, a highlighter, and my calipers. I carry a clipboard with my "brains" on it.
