I bought a new Littmann Master Cardiology Stethoscope today. It cost me around $170, but its worth it (besides, my job is reimbursing me since I'm on their scholarship program lol) The Spragues that came in our nursing kit are horrible. Sure, you can hear the heart sounds, along with my own breathingn, the tubes rubbing together and every other outside sound in the world. This Littmann works great.
Sorry for sounding goofy, I'm just excited. Got my student loan refund today and its the first thing I bought lol.

I have been using the Littmann Master Cardiology for a few years now and I LOVE IT!!! It is by far the best I've used for auscultating heart and lung sounds on adults and peds. Congrats and I understand your excitement!
Thanks....and since I work in a nursing home, some of the elderly folks don't have the strongest heart or lung sounds...I think this scope will make a HUGE difference.
I've been listening to my own heart, lung and bowel sounds all night...am I weird? LOL

I had a cheapo scope for my CNA class last summer and did not have the easiest time with BPs etc.. I thought it was me and had no idea there was such a difference in the quality of scopes. I got a Littman Cardiology III for nursing school this year and have been thrilled with how well it works! If it makes everything that much clearer, then it's definitely worth the money. Congrats on you purchase too :)

It's nice of your employer to reimburse you. I just bought the same stethoscope from allheart for $135.

Can anyone offer a comparison between a Master Cardiology and a Littman Classic II S.E.? I've been blaming my aging ears, but last week I could hear bronchial breath sounds fine and could barely find heart sounds.
The heart is usually on the left, right?

i've had 2 master cardios and both have been stolen from my workplace.
so now i'm in the market for #3, permanently attached to my neck.
and nursemike, you'll always be able to hear bronchial sounds but not always heart sounds.
heart sounds can be muffled for a variety of reasons.
and sometimes you don't auscultate the apex but the aortic arch where the sound/pulse will be more prominent.
anyway, on ebay they're advertising this new stethoscope for $40 and testimonials SWEAR that it's better than the master cardiology.
should i bite and buy it???
I had my name placed on the tubing. Don't know that would really make a thief think twice but maybe it will.

Here is a comparison of all Littmann Scopes. I picked the Master as well because it had better warranty than the electronic ones, which I actually need since I have a hearing loss.
I plan on having my name engraved on the diaphragm...and having "RN" put behind it after I graduate.
