Hello there fellow nurses!

I would like to share the steps I took in order to take my NCLEX-RN exam. I know how it feels to not know how to start, doing everything from asking friends, making online researches and participating in nursing forums such as these.. So I decided to share my experience and hope to help those of you who are still starting with their own USRN Journey. Feel free to ask questions!

Hello there.. I too didn't have any of those american requirements when I applied for nclex in the state of Alaska. Luckily, even though they require Social Security number, I was able to fill out a form for SSn exception and they honored it. I learned about that as I was really studying and going through all the application details in their website, especially for foreign nurse graduates. You may want to check out the different states' BON using the link here https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm

Hello everyone. I just want to be of help to those foreign nurse graduates and Filipinos like me who are planning, currently struggling, or even those who don't know how to start their NCLEX-RN application. I'd been there and I know how these types of forum really help, that's why I created this post.

First thing to consider is which State do you want to get licensed at? Requirements really vary and you may even need to take and pass some exams like IELTS/TOEFL and CGFNS before you're eligible to apply. You may check out the requirements of your chosen State using this link https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm

Pay for the application fee, download forms and submit their requirements. Some forms will be given to your School and also to your Licensing bodies, which they'll be sending to the state board afterwards. These are office to office transactions so you'll also have to pay for separate fees to these offices for the shipment. Processing will take a really bunch of time, so you have to be patient.

After the board of nursing reviews your papers and approves your application, you'll need to register to pearson vue for your examination. You'll have to make another payment here. http://www.pearsonvue.com/nclex/

You'll then be made eligible with pearson vue, and that's the time you'll receive your authorization to test letter (i received mine thru email). Schedule your exam within the validity of your BON approval and ATT.

Study and prepare for your big nursing battle!

To start you need a us social security number, once you acquire one you can start doing your research to what state you want to practice for their application requirements.

Hi, just wanted to ask you, did you have an American visa before because I was denied one even after I brought supporting documents to show that I had due cause to be in the U.S.. I have gotten my eligibility to test from myBON but unable to pay for the exam since I do not have a visa to enter the U.S.. So how did you do yours? As you may know if u pay Pearson Vue then there's a 3 month window period. If you're unable to meet that deadline then you lose your payment, so what advice can you give?

thank you so much for responding i really appreciate it especially from a fellow. i have read the requirements in their website. i know the technicals but i just dont know if they allow to renew license without SSN and if they allow a licensee to be out of state (i mean to hold a license even if i will only live in here and not go there). i have read a lot from this forum lately and it is really hard to get good advice or even tips nowadays from people who are there already...some even discourage others. what they do not remember is how they were back in the day and what they were before they went there. so i thank you for this thread.:) may i ask do you work there now or do you have plans to endorse to another... i am sorry i cannot send private messages yet i dont know how and i am new to this forum. i am looking forward to your response.

What you have to remember is each state will have their own requirements and even if you move from one state to another you will be classed as an International nurse and the BON may still require you to meet requirements not of endorsement but as an initial applicant

I don't have a Social Security number at that time yet. Luckily for me, Alaska Board of Nursing considered applicants without SSn for as long as we also accomplish the Request for Exception from SSN Requirement form and send it to one of their offices. I'm not sure what other states can do this or if they're more strict re this requirement
