No problem. :) I know, I'd been there too and I know the feeling when you don't know how to start and what to do. Which state are you applying for by the way? I'm not sure what you meant when you asked about the license renewal without SSN. Are you currently processing your papers to move here in the States? Like you still have plans in moving and working here? In my case I even forgot to update my address with the Alaska Board of Nursing, so more than a week after I passed the NCLEX-RN exam, I got this news from my family in the Philippines that they got a mail, and when I asked them to check, it actually contained my nursing certificate and my official AK Nurse license! So I guess there are some states who actually allow and even send licenses to foreign nurses. Well as of now, I'm already job-hunting, just gone through one tough job interview and I hope to get the position. I don't have any plans to move to another state, so I'm good here

Hi rnunic1! No I didn't have my US visa that time yet as I was also still processing my immigration papers that time as well. I have a question though, when the BON contacted you and gave your eligibility, did they also say the validity of their approval of your application? I mean did they like tell you that you should be able to take the exam within this span of time? Which state are you applying at by the way? Because based on my experience, when they sent me an email approving my application, they told me that I should take the exam within one year (that's 04/09/2013 to 04/08/2014). Uhm, I think the 3 month window period you've mentioned is about the validity of the ATT once you've registered with the Pearson Vue? And I guess it also varies from each State. Like my friend who's appying for NewYork, it's only 3months. But where I applied - Alaska, my ATT validity was for one year.. So I suggest you check your BON approval validity when you got your eligibility, then find out also the usual ATT validity for the said state. You can then compromise and decide from there the best time you can schedule your exam. :)

I don't have a Social Security number at that time yet. Luckily for me, Alaska Board of Nursing considered applicants without SSn for as long as we also accomplish the Request for Exception from SSN Requirement form and send it to one of their offices. I'm not sure what other states can do this or if they're more strict re this requirement

My license by examination NCLEX-RN Application Experience
Hello everyone. I just want to be of help to those foreign nurse graduates and Filipinos like me who are planning, currently struggling, or even those who don't know how to start their NCLEX-RN application. I'd been there and I know how these types of forum really help, that's why I created this post. First thing to consider is which State do you want to get licensed at? Requirements really vary and you may even need to take and pass some exams like IELTS/TOEFL and CGFNS before you're eligible to apply. You may check out the requirements of your chosen State using this link https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm Pay for the application fee, download forms and submit their requirements. Some forms will be given to your School and also to your Licensing bodies, which they'll be sending to the state board afterwards. These are office to office transactions so you'll also have to pay for separate fees to these offices for the shipment. Processing will take a really bunch of time, so you have to be patient. After the board of nursing reviews your papers and approves your application, you'll need to register to pearson vue for your examination. You'll have to make another payment here. http://www.pearsonvue.com/nclex/ You'll then be made eligible with pearson vue, and that's the time you'll receive your authorization to test letter (i received mine thru email). Schedule your exam within the validity of your BON approval and ATT. Study and prepare for your big nursing battle!

My license by examination NCLEX-RN Application Experience
Hello there.. I too didn't have any of those american requirements when I applied for nclex in the state of Alaska. Luckily, even though they require Social Security number, I was able to fill out a form for SSn exception and they honored it. I learned about that as I was really studying and going through all the application details in their website, especially for foreign nurse graduates. You may want to check out the different states' BON using the link here https://www.ncsbn.org/contactbon.htm

I know how it feels to not know how to start, doing everything from asking friends, making online researches and participating in nursing forums such as these.. So I decided to share my experience and hope to help those of you who are still starting with their own USRN Journey. Feel free to ask questions!

Charting Bloopers
(not really on charting) a watcher came to the station saying: "Grandma VERBALIZED she's constipated"... I, and my Nurse Aid frowned, then smiled... just so happened that GRANDMA had a tracheostomy.
