Can anyone recommend a good hand cream? With the constant washing of hands whilst on duty, my hands are getting red and almost to the point of bleeding across the knuckles.
Here is a study on half a dozen operating-room nurses at Georgetown University Hospital that tested six hand creams over six days.
After 20 years of nursing, with all the hand washing that entails, my hands still look pretty good. The first thing is to make sure you always wet your hands before applying soap, which activates the emollient and protects your skin. I keep hand cream next to my phone or TV and rub it in during an ad break or call. WHen my hands feel dry or tight I lather on cream before bed and pop on a pair of cotton gloves.
I love all the Body Shop's butter range (particularly brazilnut) but sorbolene's hypoallengenic and inexpensive, Lucas pawpaw oitment's great, and even Vaseline's good if you don't need to use your hands for anything for a while.
Although it has petroleum by-products, like Vaseline, because it's categorised as a therapeutic good the base ingredient isn't listed on the label. I've done a bit of Googling and there are other paw paw-based creams without petroleum by-products if you prefer. This article compares some of them.

I heard Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is really really good, however I haven't used it yet !
Avon makes a product called 'Silicon Glove' which apparently is another great product.
