It is hard to get into casual pool with less than a year experience. Hospitals would not employee because of the safety reason. Only possible way to get a job is to get into graduate program. You will get some information about current some GNP here and I hope it helps you. Another way is to contact all graduate coordinator and submit your resume. Um...it is hard to say...However, I would say 'no' to get the place in sunshine and footscray(never...) as those places are quite dangerous. Near the hospital, Essendon n Keilor are fine. Hi, I am not working in United States, but I think I can leave some comments as a RN. Now I am practicing in Aus tralia after graduating my nursing course in my home country. I was planning to go to America but I moved to Aus by chance. :-) First of all, I think Nursing is really good job in financial wise. If you like travel, you can be a nurse in other countries around the world very easily. In terms of shortage, who can predict the future? However, compared to other jobs, yes, I think you are on the right track. Specially travel nurses. Also, you will know what specialty you like while you are doing the placement in the course. If you do not like, it is hard to work in special area although it is good money. For me, I can not work in ED, as I feel fainted with trauma patients. :-) "33yr old is still young." My preceptor, she started her nursing in her 40's and she is enjoying her life now. I think 5years in 30's is nothing. I hope this give you some idea. Cheers,

I think it is not difficult to get into the GNP as I think you will not have any problems to communicate (However, cultural backgroound is a bit different as well as some medications/equipments). Before that, you need to know how you can endorse your nursing registration. However, I think you need to have some experience in nursing to endorse the registration. Hi, From my experience, the interview for GNP was not really hard. You will not be expected to answer the medical/nursing procedure or action as you are a graduate nurse. However, the interviewer will want to know whether you are a good team worker or you know the scope of nursing(what you need to do, what you should not do-boundary of nursing). Hi, I used to work as AIN in Brisbane. Although you have completed placements and had some knowledges/skills, it is not easy if you are an international student. It could be because of your English/communication skill or your status as a student. From my experience, many nursing homes just offer casual positions for students as many students cannot work continuously because of various events such as exam, assessment...ect. Contact nursing homes or nursing agencies and ask them you want to start from casual. If you do not cancel any shift and work hard, they will offer some part time later on. To find the agencies, nursing homes, use the job websites like M (Medical specific site), S or C. Newspapers(including local papers)are another good source to get a job! All the best:lol2:

I think it is up to the type of ward you are going to apply. If you are interested in working in Psych unit, you'd better include that you have been interested in Psych nursing since your undergraduate. Otherwise, not necessarily. Also, I think it is good to get support letter from your boss, although it is not nursing related job. It can support your attitude in your workplace, ability to work as a team, etc which is important and relevant to any jobs. Good Luck.

I think it happens everywhere. I want to say 'ignore it' but I know how it is difficult. If there are caregivers who worked there for a long time, it is really natural thing. If you are there still despite of their backstabing and show you are always the same(fair to everyone, try to help others and work as a team), you will be alright. I think that those kind of behaviours come from the thoughts that they want to get respected from you or they are better than you. However, once they accept you are nice and helpful, their bahaviour will be changed.
