Chuck Taylors work for me. I have bought expensive Nike shoes that tore my feet up but with Converse shoes my feet don't hurt at all during my shift. I recently did a shift with Toms shoes and felt like a ballerina walking with them all day and my feet were happy. Both are very cheap.
I like Allegria....danskos didn't work for me and merrels are ok. These are ugly shoes btw, but after you wear them you don't care. Unfortunately everyone's different. I have mildly flat feet and they're big /wide.
I wear athletic compression socks to work. I have to work to get them on, but before I started wearing them I had a lot of issues with my feet, ankles, and calves being sore at the end of a 12 hour shift. Totally worth the effort and cost.
I've had foot problems my whole life, had surgery as a child, get custom orthotics and use Nike or Adidas running shoes at work. Very comfortable, no foot pain! Maybe a visit to the podiatrist for orthotics is in order!
Shoes are so incredibly personal it's hard to give advice other than to try as many brands and styles as it takes until you find the right one. Personally I like Easy Spirit, but I have a coworker who swears by Converse.

Wear the shoes that fit you best. But it's worth spending money on good shoes, and to ensure that they last longer get two pair and alternate. Don't try going the "cheaper route." You'll end up paying for it in the end with foot pain, leg pain, back pain.
I wear Sketchers Shape Ups. Since I found them I rarely wear anything else. And no, I never believed they would tone my thighs or make my butt smaller. For me, they have excellent arch support and and are very comfortable no matter how much I am standing or walking.
