My dream job called six weeks into the job I accepted

So I feel like a jerk even posting this, because I know so many of you out there can't find a position, but it's killing me. I graduated nursing school in August with my BSN and the intention of moving out of state (boring small town, bad weather, best friend lives somewhere warmer and more fun). I applied to many positions in the units I wanted, but every single one was asking for 2-5 years experience. The NICU in my hometown where I had done my capstone called to tell me there was an open part time position and not even having gotten an email or phone call from any of the places I applied, I accepted it because I needed money and I could have full-time when it was available. Six weeks later, the NICU in the highly-regarded children's hospital in the place I want to work called to ask for a phone interview based on the resume I had sent the recruiter 3 months ago. What do I do?! I like the unit I am on now, but I was planning on job searching again in a few years. I guess I'm trying to convince myself that leaving this job after only a couple months wouldn't be terrible. Advice please!

You can always just go ahead and interview. You don't really have a decision to make until you have a firm job offer from your dream hospital. If they do offer you the job, though, I'd say take it!

an interview is not an offer....interview....if they extend an offer, Go with your heart.

Go for the interview. Deal with the decision only if you get the job offer.

Ya definitely do the interview then go from there! Congrats and good luck!

I agree, definitely take the interview and see what happens from there. I think you'll regret it if you don't. :)

I called them back to schedule the phone interview. Now I have crazy butterflies because I've never had a phone interview before and I hate talking on the phone even to people I know and like.

You also don't have to get all dressed up.. You can do the interview in your PJ's :)

Go to the interview and see what happens.

So I had the phone interview today and it must have went okay because I'll have a second phone interview with a panel next week. I would hate to quit after the unit has spent time and money on my orientation and will be getting nothing back.

think about it this way....that unit would have no problem getting rid of you if you weren't a "good fit" I left my first job 8 weeks in because I got a much better offer from a hospital closer to home (and the one I really wanted to work in).
