My coworker is essentially stealing. She stays nearly an hour late everyday for overtime. This would not be unusual but we work in a setting where staying late is blatantly unnecessary. She has no reason to stay late every day and purposely puts off her work til the last minute. It really bothers me. She spends the entire shift wasting time so she can have something to do right before she is supposed to leave. I’m not about to compromise my job by saying anything but drives me crazy.

If your coworker isn't finishing her work on time and staying an hour late every day and is the only person who does this it will be noticed and dealt with. Since this doesn't affect you in any way, and doesn't affect patient safety, though it understandably annoys you I would stay out of it altogether. People who cheat have no problem creating nasty splashback on people they think had a hand in turning them in to the authorities.

I hate it also. I know you (I) really need to MYOB, however what happens when the facility needs to cut back on staff, cut back on services, cut back on benefits, due to costs over runs for salaries!

I hate to just hope, assume, someone higher up is looking at who is running up a lot of overtime!

Management will take notice and act if this keeps happening. Personally I'd let them worry about it and not let it bother me. I don't see anything good coming from meddling in it. After all, this is management's responsibility and it seems to be robbing you of unnecessary energy/focus.

Let it go, focus on your work and let the manager worry about it.

1. You should MYOB.

2. If you are that concerned why don't you ask her if she needs help with any tasks to help her get out on time.

3. Go back to number 1.

So what that she is getting overtime. Is it coming out of your check ?

As stated in my initial comment, I have no intention of bringing this up to anyone. It would obviously compromise my working environment. The purpose of this post was to vent. I realize my best course of action is to say and do nothing. ALso, it very well could come out of my check. Vent away just realize you need to stay out of this :-)

There is most likely someone like this in every work setting. It is a managerial issue. If you are concerned as a co-worker then ask her if she needs help before the end of your shift. There is a nurse on my shift who "socializes" most of the shift and then is always there at the end doing his work. It is up to the manager to notice these things and take action. YOur co-worker may need the over time, maybe she needs to sign up for extra shifts??
